Today marks the 3 1/2 year anniversary of the day I first picked up a hammer and began my bladesmithing journey. It recently occurred to me that I haven't made a knife just for me in almost 3 years. So to celebrate the date, I decided to make something special. I started this drop point recurve with a billet of cable damascus that I forged out last winter, then combined it with a bit of 80CrV2 to create a cable San Mai. The whole thing measures just shy of 11", with a cutting edge just under 6". As this was to be a special build, I chose to include a bit of decorative filework on the spine. The handle is a nice piece of stabilized redwood burl that is set off by green and black pinstripe G10 liners and black G10 pins. The knife travels in a custom, hand formed leather sheath. This was a fun build, and has been a fun ride. I'm looking forward to what comes next.
