cable tang...

So you have probably seen that picture of the Cold Steel bowie knife, the Laredo, with the grip removed exposing the odd cable tang. Cold steel says this is to prevent shock from passing down the blade into the handle, and eventually into the hand.

I am willing to accept this... since I have had no issues with the durability of the knife as of yet, and I have subjected it to some medium strength shocks, including some batoning without any ill effects.

Here is my question, have any of you seen, heard, or made any knife, tool, impact or otherwise, with this same construction? I have spent a while searching the web and haven't found anything. I would trust this knife a lot more if there where some precedent for the type of construction.

Thanks for your time, Matt
