I just tried the cable tie mod on my FRN Native 4. It's pretty cool. I don't know if I'll keep it in there, but it's s great option as opposed to buying the Emerson Wave version.

Let me rephrase that. There is no Emerson Wave Native. I meant "as opposed to buying any of the available Wave knives."

I had a delica with the integral wave feature and found a regular delica with a cable tie mod to be more reliable in opening with a wider array of pants/shorts. The integral wave model would occasionally bog down and lock inside the pocket.

I've never gotten the hang of the waved or cable-tie mods. I guess I never need to draw my knife so quickly that I can't wait the extra 150ms to flick it out. :)

Plus, the cable tie mod I tried ripped up my pants pocket pretty bad.

I am pretty good with my Endura Wave and can open 100% with jeans on. Have to try the cable tie on another knife.....

Worked well for me with my UKPK, but it shredded my jean pockets! lol

I eventually took them off though after skinning a bag of rats and needing my knife to be thoroughly cleaned..

I cut waves in many of my knives but on some I don't want to devalue I'll use the zip-tie. If you do a little work sanding/rounding off the zip-tie's head it'll be alot easier on your pants.

I'd get the Emerson Wave on every EDC folder if I could. I love the design and I have a knife in my hand faster than any other method. More pragmatically, I find the wave incredibly useful when working on something and i have only one hand. I have the wave on an Emerson, Benchmade and on some of my Spyderco's. Just can't restate enough how functional and useful the wave is.
