I was just wondering if anyone uses any CAD programs to design their blades or knife parts. If so tell me the program you use, I am considering to "tinker" with that idea. Although I am no computer expert it will be interesting to see what the out come will be.

I use autoCAD 2000 to draw mine after seeing some one ask about sending the files to a company to have blanks cut. I forget how it was. I like it because I get exact measurements and it plots great templets.

I can also draw them faster on AutoCAD than by hand, I do not draw very well by hand. E_ mail me if you have any questions.

I also use AutoCad! I might do some rough sketches at home with french curves and hole templates but.......Nothing beats the ability of CAD to bring everthing together.

The fitting of the hole patern on this knife along with the hole/chamfer sizes would have been (for me) VERY time consuming without CAD.
I'm now using it to play with folder designs.
Being able to open and close a folder to check clearances on the computer screen is a BIG help.

Nice looking blade Neil!

I suppose Syderco took the conservative approach

(I am just kidding, I really do like the design.)

How difficult is it to do the grind?

CL,
Both the LiteWave and my Hawkbill are a pain to grind

There is never a time when the hollow grind actually takes a "set" to the contact wheel. All grinding is done on the corner of the wheel with the belt wrapping around it. On the pictured knife above, the top of the grind line gets closer to the bottom of the holes towards the tip. If it's not even, it realy stands out!!
The Hawkbill has a very pronounced point and it gets REAL hot. I only get one pass and it's into the water!!!

Hey Neil,

Very nice design on that blade.

I can only imagine how long it took.
