Hello heading out of town tomorrow and have located a supply of cadet's in silver, green and red. I just joined here and since have become interested in slippies/multi's. This will be my first SAK and after looking and reading the interest for me was the Farmer and then the Cadet reared it's head. I can't seem to locate a farmer other than online. Anyway what color should I get? IF I was working all three! BTW price is $18.--

The non-silver alox handles tend to wear quite a bit if they rub up against keys or anything else hard in your pocket. So silver looks the best over time. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a red SAK!

+1 on the cool factor for a Red SAK, but agree with SAKsRCool on the wear factor.

I've been carrying a modded orange cadet (added scissors) the orange wears well cause it's riding on one of my SAKKlips and not down in the bottom of my pocket with the keys and change. That my $0.02!

Cadet is a great choice, in my opinion. I normally carry a red one and as others have mentioned, it's now looking pretty worn. I like the well-traveled look, but it is not for everyone. I carry a silver one when needing something that looks a little "crisper". Good luck!

Can't go wrong with a Cadet. My EDC is a RED one. It is my favorite knife. I used to think they were a bit thin, but after carrying one for a while, I found it hard going back to anything else. Built like a little tank, great fit and finish, and a lot of tool in small package. Since stainless steel doesn't develop a patina, the fading handle colors show character. A great little pocketknife. Go for it.

Color is a matter of personal preference. I have also heard that the colored (green, red, blue, etc.) alox SAKs tend to look well worn after a bit of pocket carry. If you are going to carry in a wooded enviornment the Farmer would probably be a better choice. For urban/office carry, the Cadet is good. Nice and thin, sheeple friendly, virtually unoticable in your pocket. I have a silver Farmer and I just bought a green Cadet for ~$18. -DT

Hello got the red and after opening and using it wish I would have purchased more than one. Are they going to discontinue this model? Sure would make a great little handy gift for just about anyone. I love the finger nail tool and just know that the bottle opener is going to be great on those dark beers! Now about that farmer. BTW this thing has quite a snap to it. Are they all that way? Can't believe that I never used or purchased an SAK. Just like the case I recently purchased I'm pleased.

I received a red alox Cadet as a stocking stuffer from my Wife. Now, I rarely leave the house without it. It has all of the tools I need, usually, in a light thin package.

My local Target store carries the Cadet in a variety of colors(silver, blue, red, green, and orange). I think it goes for less than $20.

Was just at Target (picked up a Gerber Clutch as a impulse buy) and I saw they had Cadets in stock for $17 and change. However, my store only had green ones. If they had a silver, I may have sprung and picked one up just for the sake of having one :)

All the coloured alox models tend to be 'limited edition' but the plain (silver) Cadet will probably be around for a long time to come

The bottle opener (or cap lifter if you prefer) is usually the 'snappiest' tool, but all the tools have a very positive 'snap', and they don't get significantly 'looser' over time either; I just take that as a sign of quality :D

It might be your first SAK but I doubt it'll be your last :p

Big thumbs up  to the Cadet model - I have one in gunmetal and it's a hell of a package for how thin and light it is. A lot of utility in such a small package. It's hands down my favorite Victorinox model (next to the Waiter).

I have a black one on my keys and it looks great, but there is some wear on the scales. I also have a silver one and that seems to hold up better (can't see the scuffs). I like the black one if you can find it but the silver is my second choice.

Oh! I just picked up an orange Cadet the other day and I love it. A light and thin package that rides easily in the pocket. Very nice little knife and you can't beat the price. If wear bothers you, I would go with the silver, otherwise just pick your favorite color!
