The postman just dropped off my latest El Patron from Jeremy Robertson/Calavera Cutlery. This is a new format/profile from the usual larger El Patron in that it's a scaled down version of the larger 3.75" model. The blade length on this 3.25", and the body has also been scaled down accordingly (not to be confused with his discontinued "El Patron GBF"...this is a beefier version than the GBF). Not only that, but its blade is made from SM100! And, it gets better. This also has Jeremy's new bearing system in the pivot, so it is absolutely smooth as silk in operation.
My first impressions of it so far are just...wow! I've got Jeremy's first larger El Patron in starfire damascus and have always loved it, but I think this new slightly smaller one tops it for me. The size is more suitable for me to EDC than the full sized El Patron, and with the lightweight SM100 blade it's just unnoticeable in the pocket. And even though my larger El Patron is a fine knife, you can see that Jeremy continues to improve his fit/finish from that earlier model to this newer variant. Nothing huge, but comparing the two side by side you can see subtle improvements in screw fit, added beveling on the edges of the scales (slides into pocket better), improved fit and ease of use of the pocket clip, and even newer jimping on the spine. And of course the addition of the bearing pivot system means a lightning quick deployment.
This knife is going into my pocket ASAP, knocking out my beloved production Dauntless. I can't wait to see how this elegant, yet sturdy as hell little El Patron holds up to some use!
For everything that I couldn't put into adequate words, below are some photos!
