I don’t spend a lot of time in Caldwell, and most of my fishing is done close to home in Boise or north into the hills on one fork or another of the Boise or Payette rivers. The Boise is close and so is the Snake River, their confluence is nearby outside of Parma, Idaho and is a neat area. I usually think the Boise and Payette for trout and bass and catfish in the Snake, but there is a mix in both the Boise and Snake in the valley. The confluence is in a wildlife management area (WMA) and is the site of the original Hudson’s Bay post Fort Boise, there is a recreation in Parma and a small monument near the end of the road in the WMA. The leaves are turning, so it should be a good show. There are a number of sportsman’s access areas and in Ada county there are several ponds stocked year around, check
http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/ for regulations, fishing reports and stocking reports.
The fruit orchards over towards Marsing are going, still a few peaches, plouts and getting into full swing for pears and apples, and apple cider at Williamson orchards. Watch out for trucks, the sugar beet and onion harvests should be going and there is also some train traffic around Parma.
The Cabela’s in Boise has Elmer Keith’s gun collection and part of his office on display, there is also a knife made for Keith by Gil Hibben. Boise (and Garden City) have several brewerys, brew pubs, and a Distillery with restaurant. For cutlery Chris Reeves is in Boise, and I know there is at least one maker in Nampa, check with the Idaho Knife Association, I haven’t kept up with them this year, but I know they have a facebook page.
