i ran a search but could not find the answer, i gave a friend a benchmade 9550 and the is handicapp. he said that he had heard from someone that it was alright for him to carry because of the handicapp status. i told him i would find out but have come up dry so far. thanks for any info

It's not simply being "handicapped." It has to involved having a missing arm or hand. That's just the federal law (15 USC § 1244) which governs interstate sale.

It's possible California may not recognize this as an exception, but I'll let our forum members who are from CA address that. But also remember that automatics that have blades under 2" in CA aren't illegal anyway.

I'm not 100% sure, but I did a quick scan and could not find any reference to an exception in CA law for handicapped individuals.

the ca penal code does not address the issue of autos and handicapped persons as far as i know. at least the sections governing weapons carry makes no mention of it.

there may be something in the ada (americans with disabilities act) covering the topic but i have never looked.

Since I live in so-cal born and raised. I can tell you that if an Officer finds an auto-knife you are in deep, even if you are a handicap vet or a civilian sheepdog. The laws here are all backwards. Keep the law-abiding citizens from their rights to protect themselves and loved ones, and let the gang-bangers and other criminals to anything they want...and believe me they can get illegal weapons as easy as they can a six pack of beer. Ass-backwards california for you.:thumbdn: Im moving to texas!

Texas? No dude, go to Vermont! You can carry a handgun concealed with no permit, and autos under 3 inches are legal to carry too. 12 murders in a year in the whole state.

I was reading about a judge criticizing CA's legislature and the referendum system as "dysfunctional." That's all I'm going to say because I'm certainly no political expert.

Vermont is far too cold for me, thought it was very liberal too. But those laws actually sound American! Tempting. Thanks Glistam I will be there collecting maple sap for syrup when the fudge hits the fan, count on it. Oh ill also bring tons of ammo...I'm willing to share.

really?

653k pc is a misdemeanor, and citeable.

you may disagree with the laws in place because you feel you should be allowed to carry anything you want, but ca is far from being the most restrictive state.

You forgot a word: "ca is far from being the most restrictive state yet". California is on the fast track to becoming the most restrictive, and LA is leading the charge. We'll be leaving NY and DC behind soon. Can't hardly wait to leave the "People's Republic", and move to Nevada or Vermont.

im not aware of any new weapons laws this year in the penal code, except for a gang enhancement attached to 12020pc or thereabouts.

if you can provide specific examples, i would be more than happy to read and discuss.
