Called usa made brand company to get my otf serviced. They said that if I wasn't in arm forces or law inforcement I need a dealer to send it in. When I explained this to the dealer he said he could send it in but won't be able to give it back because of the auto law. Boy how I wish the silly laws would change, an auto knife is just a knife and button and springwith a little pizzazz which unfortunately I love. I own both auto and non-auto knives but the autos are just special to me. Would like to carry and use as an edc and not get in trouble for it. Any one out there feel my pain???? And would like to elaborate.

There are some good YouTube videos that might help with automatic knife repair. Many CA laws are unreasonable, and not just for automatics. Don't me started on CA taxes or immigration either.

Actually, California knife laws aren't really that bad in comparison to other states. The fact that you can own autos and carry some (under 2") is a lot better than many other states ; some states make it a felony to even possess an auto. As far as not giving it back since you're not LE or military, that's federal law, it's been on the books since the 50s. Several US based knife companies have run into trouble for not complying with the statutes that relate to autos and other "evil" knives like balisongs and gravity knives (the real ones, not the NYC definition) and have paid hefty fines as a result. Spyderco paid out and lost a large amount of merchandise for illegally importing balisongs a few years ago, I can't recall the exact details, but I do remember reading Sal saying that the ordeal cost them around a half million $$ in lost merchandise and fines. As a result, most companies are very strict about repairs on autos.

My suggestion is to try and find another dealer who is willing to handle it for you, generally ones in the vicinity of military bases tend to be more open minded in my limited experience.
