California Buckeye Scales

Ive learned to come here before I spend. Is this material as scales a good material? Meaning is it soft? does it hold? Im going to carry the knife, and it looks cool, just want to know what you all think.
 
It is very soft & brittle and needs to be stabilized before use.

Beautiful stuff though.
 
It is relatively soft. I just made an EnZo in Buckeye Burl (stabilized myself with a Minwax product). I'll try to get some pics up tonight.
