I'm in California, and I was wondering if I could carry a six inch non-folding (fixed blade) knife. According to what I've read on the internet, I can carry one non-concealed legally, or I can legally carry a concealed folding knife. However, I want to carry a non-folding knife in my backpack, where it's not too visible, but it's not as accessible as a pocketed knife. Is this legal? If not, how can I transport my non-folding knives legally? (I don't use a car)

all muni and county codes aside, in a backpack should be fine, inside or mounted to the outside.
the relevant phrase is "readily available as a stabbing weapon". in a backpack, imo, is not readily available.
