California folder knife law

I plan to purchase an emerson with a 4.1 inch blade and carry it closed in my pocket. I just wanted to make sure that this was legal. I've read up on laws on the equalccw website and it seems like there is not length limit in CA as long as it's a folder and it can be carry concealed as long as the blade is not open. Thanks in advance.

you should also be fine as long as you look decent enough and not like a mall ninja or rambo.

Keep in mind that besides the state exceptions -- schools, courts, etc. -- there are some municipalities that have their own laws. For example, LA is rumored to have its own laws, that you'll want to research separately.

not a rumor, but most restrictions are for minors w/weapons. under most circumstances an adult with a concealed folder should not be in violation of la muni codes.

Good to know ... I could have sworn there was a 3"-blade limit either in LA, or one of the surrounding cities

I believe it is LA County that has a 3" limit on concealed knives, like SF and Berkeley.
