In CA there's a ten day "cooling off" period that normally needs to be observed when trying to purchase any rifle or shotgun. The purchaser must wait ten days before taking possesion of a rifle or shotgun, to try to thwart a person in an angry state of mind from purchasing a rifle or shotgun and using it in anger.

So then, how exactly does this work with gun shows? Is the "cooling off" period simply waved?

You buy it at the show, and pick it up 10 days later at the actual store, or use a transfer dealer.

10 days is for any firearm. Gunshows have the same rules a a gun store. You pay them and pick it up at the store after the 10 days.

If you are buying a longgun and it is a curio and relic (over 50yrs old) and not buying from a dealer but, a private individual then the 10 day wait does not apply (cash n carry).
However, if you buy the same curio and relic firearm from a licensed dealer you have to pay the DROS fee and wait 10 days.

If you have a C&R lic. and even though it is cash and carry for a C&R either handgun or long gun you still have to DROS it. But there isnt much temptation at least in Nor Cal because all they sell at gun shows is beef jerky, cheap taiwanese knives, and over priced reloads :( the PRK is as close to hell as you can get while still breathing boys and girls
