California Laws / City Laws?

I've read many times over and over that Fixed-Blade Knives do not have a length limit and must be carried openly on the waist or etc.

But then all of a sudden I'm reading about how most towns/cities in California say blades are unlawful if over 3 inches.

I mean, wtf? Confusing enough?

Anyone know which one is right?

Look down about half a dozen threads to the one titled "California State Law WTH". It is rather lengthy but there is a lot of good info from some knowledgeable people, including LEOs. There's also a direct quote of the LA ordinance.

By the way, are you within LA County?
