California Legal Switchblade ?

I think so.

Those CA legal switchblades sold from that outfit seem largely low cost imported copies. They can sometimes be found in flea markets and Chinatown.

Yeah I thought so.
How can they claim they are ca. legal?
Someone's going to get in a lot of trouble with those knives.

Switchblades (which in CA includes balisongs [butterfly knives]) less than 2" in blade length are legal in CA. There's an entire submarket of CA legal autos, and almost all the major manufacturers of switchblades have at one time made >2" autos. Most notably Protech, which is located in CA.

I think it's UNDER 2-inches, not 2-inches AND under. That's why in this article on CA knife laws it says "there is a market for 1.90-inch knives:"

Important distinction, but basically moot; all the manufacturers know this fact and make their knives as such (1.9-1.95"). You're not going to find a 2.0" switchblade, so there's nothing to worry about.

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

1.9 inch knives dont turn me on even if it's a switchblade.

I have a few AO and flipper knives and my 2 1/4 Kershaw Scallion is as about as short as I go. The modern AO/flipper knife is so fast there is no need for a switchblade.
Yes, I know i started this thread, I just thought that this guy was going to get people in trouble with his switchblades.
Thanks to you guys for the info on the under (1.9) 2 inch blade law.

ProTech Stinger and Runt are neat little knives. Maybe not for heavy work, but they'll take on the small jobs. Lots of guys carry keychain knives.

The CA under 2 inch law applies to carry. You can own a auto knife of any size in you home.

They're still fun, but yeah, as far as useful knives go, I'd carry something else. I live in a state where I can carry whatever the hell I want, and I very rarely carry an auto anymore; I prefer the AXIS lock for easy closing (and opening), rather than an auto for easy opening. They're fun, so I still have several, but I mainly play with them at home. A 2" auto, particularly Protechs, have a serious snap to them; almost too strong and fast to hold on to the little bugger.

I think the one truly useful CA auto is the DKD Shark. It's a >2" blade, but with full 4.75" handles, so you're not cramped up. The hawkbill blade would make a wicked box cutter. There's also the Stingray, with a more conventional blade, but I like the idea of a hawkbill in a blade that small.

Microtech did a 1.9" version of the utx70 that makes a pretty good letter opener/box cutter for the office.

Section 653K of the Ca. penal code addresses switchblades, what is and what isn't legal. A folder with over 1 7/8" blade can be legal if; No spring assist Has a thumb stud There is a 'reverse' spring action which when you start to open the blade, it wants to go back into its original folded position. I'm no lawyer, obviously, but this is my interpretation in my own words.
