California Neck Knife Laws?

fixed blade knife laws are what you need to look at.more knowledgable people can give you more detailed info.

Hey bud.

I live just down the street from you in Manhattan Beach.

Most of the law enforcement here have told me that if they have searched you and have decided that you are dangerous it doesnt really matter what the knife law is, they can confiscate the weapon.

The truth is that if you are a good law abiding citizen, don't put yourself in a situtation where you have to deal with peace officers alot, are responsible, and respect others they don't really care what you carry concealed as they will never be in a situation to search you. That is what my neighbor who is a officer told me

His exact words, " If you dont look like a jackass and arent acting like a jackass you dont need to worry about it."

All very true for the normal police officer. There are the bad ones though, which doesn't bod well when your getting a traffic violation, the victim of a crime, or a minority, you can still run into one that'll just want to give you trouble or take your knife.

My only other problem is that my friends are jackasses. Which snags the occasional cop's attention when bar hoping.

Yeah, I've had some of those. You're known by the company you keep. If you don't want to get caught up in their BS you should limit your time with them and look for new drinking buddies.

you should just wear it on your belt. i got an izula. was originally gonna neck it only around my house. liked it so much i got a custom kydex sheath to belt carry it. if you are bent on carrying a neck knife around your neck i think it is legal as long as it is visable, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a neck knife in the first place.

i would suggest this is very poorly given advice.

a neck knife concealed would be in violation of 12020 pc, concealed dirk/dagger, a felony. whether or not you consider yourself, or anyone else, a "law abiding citizen" is irrelevant if you have been advised by a law enforcement officer that committing a felony should be fine under any circumstance.

one can never anticipate all possible encounters and situations. in the event you were carrying a concealed neck knife and it was found during a police search, you would be subject to arrest just as anyone.

appearances are only one factor in the decision an officer makes regarding contact with a civilian. ive arrested plenty of career criminals who would not appear so based solely on their dress or other outward appearances.

you have been so forewarned, and my advice is to never knowingly commit an act which could ultimately end with you in prison.

I believe that the officer was referring to the very small risk of actually being searched and arrested for the concealed knife if a person is dressed well and minds his/her own business, not a tacit encouragement to break the law. Personally, I have no use for neck knives. I carry either on the belt openly (fixed blade while hunting or fishing) or a 4" lockblade folder in the right front trouser pocket (EDC on the street). IMHO, neck knives are gimmicks, but to each his own.
