I was at a barbecue of my cop friend, who is just recently a sworn officer. at this barbecue were mostly younger officers, many of whom are technically police officers, but really only act as guards at a high security mental hospital.

knife talk came up, and one of the young female officers started spouting off a bunch of things I know are false, then stated that many knife laws were about to change.

I know police officers are generally the last people to trust on trivialities of law, and I usually take anything they say with a grain of salt. but I also have been out of the loop on CA laws lately, an area I used to peruse more frequently, and was curious if they're really were any recent changes coming to light.

I haven't seen or heard of any changes being proposed to California's knife laws. I haven't spoken to my criminal attorney recently, but he keeps me up to date on such things. I'm confident that he would have let me know.

The legislative process doesn't occur in secret, so if there were changes to the law being proposed, there would be some amount of media coverage on the matter, not to mention politicians making press releases and giving interviews. Politicians who propose "anti-weapon" laws love media attention, they think it will get them re-elected. I can't find anything on the internet regarding any new knife legislation here in California.

In 2012 California's knife laws were revised, but all that really means is that the statute numbers were changed. None of the actual laws were changed.

I'd say, consider the source of the info you received (the female cop). If she was grossly wrong about some things, I wouldn't trust her to get anything right. Heck, if I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say "A cop told me the knife laws were changing" I'd have quite a few dollars.

I couldn't agree more on your last statement. I was pretty sure she had no clue, but it did pique my interest just enough. haha
