California Skills and Knifemaking Gathering Feeler... Anybody intersted?

Knifemaker Mark Wohlwend is thinking of hosting a hammer-in and skills weekend on his property sometime in April. He asked if I could put out a feeler to gauge interest on whether or not to try and get this off the ground.

Ideas being tossed around:

-He and fellow knifemaker Ray Laconico were going to do little teaching.
-Camping on his property
-Skills based activities: firemaking, traps, cooking, knife work, archery, hawk throwing, story & skill swapping.
-His property is basically at the gateway to the Sierra's so it's a very short drive to very spectacular place.

Mark's property is located in Exeter California, which is just East of Visalia. He would really like to see if there is enough interest to get this to happen, so please post your thoughts and ideas. Mark has hosted a couple hammer-in's in the past and they all have been a heck of a good time, and those were out of his garage at his old house. Now he has acreage and a shop.

yeah I would be interested. Only thing that could cause me problems is that is around the same time as the Bush Bash. might not be able to make both trips so close together.
 
Id be up for it. Not too far from Fresno.
 
If anyone from Utah/Wyoming/Nevada/Idaho wants to carpool I'd contribute gas. Looks like bigwater kayaking season will be a bust anyway.
 
sounds like fun.. we had a great time at the last gathering's.. depending on when it is in April, i may try and look into it.. we will be at the Chamberlin shoot the weeknd of the 14th i believe..
 
Crap! I forgot about the Chamberlin Shoot! Dang, I put in for a bunch of days off at work today for various things and forgot the shoot!!!!! Thanks for the heads up Mike. Well no date has been set yet, so I'm guessing it will probably be a consensus/what works for Mark and his family vote. I vote NOT the weekend of the 14th! :)

It will be for you guys so you set the date!

The classes right now will be me teaching a basic forging class, then Laconico will grind, I will probably do heat treat, and then Laconico will do a handle class.

Trying to make this very basic so that if you ever 'need' to make a knife, you can.

Bring your hawks as I have a target, and if anyone wants to volunteer to teach W&SS skills that would be great also...

Laconico and I plan to sell off the knife when it is done...
