California vs Idaho Quality Issues's???

I have several 110's from the old SD location. I have recently ordered and receivied two recent additions from Idaho and am going to have to send back for what I feel is poor QA. On both 110's I just got, there is a gap between the front bolster and the scale. One is with buffalo, the other with royalwood. The gap is very noticable. The gap is on one side only, about the width of .5mm. Is very noticable and unsatisfying. No problems with the knives from CA. Did the Buck Shop employees from CA go to Idaho? Any one else with similiar issues? Thanks.

 That is indeed an interesting observation. I don't have a whole lot of Idaho knives yet. I think I have 3 or four 110's a couple of 112's and two 277's and two 55's so far. I don't count all the "tinned" 110's that I gave out as gifts. The only one of the newer knives I've picked up that had any type of problem is a 110FG that has a bit of a finish problem. Looks like it might have been hit a bit hard with the belt and then was buffed a bit too far. This was noticeable enough to send it back to Buck as it had quite a "valley" buffed in the bolster. I have to say that for all the Bucks I've had and still have around here, it's the only one I ever got with a manufacturing boo boo. That's a pretty good ratio I would think. I can't say that the problem was due to it's being made in Idaho versus California but time will tell as more and more of the Idaho knives are put to use and are looked at closer by the owners. :)

If Buck is still in the midst of a QA learning curve, the only cure is to send a knife back if it doesn't meet acceptable standards.

I've seen several on eBay and even here that had a similar problem...I also have a 110 that reportedly had been repaired and it has the "valleys" buffed into each end of the scale...presumably when buffing down the new pin(s), enough material is removed that the scale gets "valleyed" as well... :(

Here's a scan of it...It's an older slab-sided two-pin steel spacer 110...The red oval is the "scallop" in the scale where the bolster was buffed down and the edge of the scale also...

The other end and other side is similar...

I've only got 2 and neither is from the custom shop but I have no complaints with either of them. the first is a 110 and fit and finish is very good, exactly what i would expect from buck. the second is a 55 and is also put together very well. I remember several posts a while back about people haveing problem with the 110's in the Christmas tins, I seem to remember the problem was slob in the blade fit. I'm sure buck will correct the problem to your satisfaction. ahgar

So far all my Idaho stamped knives are fine, my sister gave me one of the gift box 110's for XMASS and no probems with it.
