Got tired of waiting for an email response, so I called customer service today. I've been using a gold class 525-81 mini Presidio off and on for some time and I'm ready to retire it to my collection. They CAN'T etch the damasteel again (okay, who does it for them, then?) or put a logo on it if I etch the blade myself (I would think they'd at least have that capability), she said I could order a new blade, but there's none in stock. The bronze clip finish is not a "usable" finish, it started wearing in fingerprint patterns (guess you're not supposed to touch it  ) right after I got it years ago, so I inquired about a replacement clip, none in inventory and they can't reapply the bronze coating (again, if they didn't do it, who did?) as well as no bronzed clip screws.

On another note, upon taking my 525-81 apart to etch the blade myself (something easily done in a quick battery acid bath, but apparently too difficult for the factory), I noticed the jeweled liners are rusting on the side facing the handles... I guess Ti was too expensive for their "top of the line" collector knives. Could have sworn they were touted as Ti, but looking back at the product info, it only says "jeweled liners" not, jeweled Ti liners like I thought. Cutting corners on that makes me very suspect of what else they cut corners on. I'll be sure to read the product info very carefully IF I buy another Benchmade.

Boo-hoo. You used your limited edition knife and you're now complaining that they don't have the parts for it. Mods should delete this thread or move it to W&C

Did you even read the thread? They can't service it in the least, like someone else made it and used sub-par materials. My bad, I forgot limited edition knives weren't supposed to be used  edit* or touched, right?

I guess you only use these forums so you can express your undying love, even when you see something that isn't right.

I would guess that what you're up against is the practical realities of batch/volume processes. Do it once, and when the parts are gone, there are no replacements - what was economical for a couple of hundred units isn't economical for single units. It is a bummer... :grumpy:

Yeah, you're right. I'm not as bummed out by the inability to get new parts, that's pretty much expected given that the knife is a few years old. The inability to re-etch the blade (which should be a snap for them) and redo the logo seems odd. I'm probably a little more upset than I should be (just quit smoking and STILL working through some stuff in PTSD class after years of therapy), but the stainless liners kinda ticked me off... Sorry

I have 3 discontinued Benchmade knives that couldn't be fully restored. I sent them in anyways and they did as good a job as they could and I was happy with that.
Doesn't sound like your knife failed in any way after years of service, so I really can't understand what you're whining about.

I think the issue is functional vs. cosmetic repairs. It seems that what you are asking BM for are cosmetic repairs which should be possible for them to do but apparently they are not willing to perform. I don't know that this reflects negatively on Benchmade since it is a discontinued model. Even if they were willing/able to do what you asked, it likely would not be covered under warranty, so you're probably better off getting a 3rd party to do the work you want done.

What about the common steel liners that are rusting TechDoc? You think them using materials like that on their ultra high-end knives is okay? For Christ's sakes they use Ti liners on lesser models, why downgrade the Gold Class? How about their customer service not responding to me emails? When I called I had to explain what the etch with damasteel/damascus was, the girl thought I was talking about engraving... They do custom designs on the blades, why can't I get a custom BM logo? Too many things just add up that make me weary of BM. Sorry that I'm "whining" by calling out what I think isn't right. BTW I never said I wanted any of this done for free under warranty.

I've stated my opinions, nothing else is going to come from this thread than flaming from fanboy trolls. Thread closed
