Calling all Auto-LAWKS Owners!

For those who have some experience with CRKT's auto-LAWKS system, the auto-LAWKS system on my M16-13SF doesn't seem to fully deploy (for clarification, it's been like this since I've had it from day one). What I mean by this is that the pin deploys far enough that when the knife is locked open, it obstructs the blade from closing unless it's retracted, but it only does this by the slimmest of margins as the pin seems like it should have more travel to securely protect against unwanted blade closure. I've compared the open position of my auto-LAWKS safety pin to the one on my dad's M16-13DSFG and his safety defintiely travels farther and the pin rests further down the locking liner on his knife (visible from the underside). Seeing as I've had the knife for a while know and this problem is still bothering me, I was looking to fix it and was wondering if I filed down the area where the pin rests against while open would that cause any damage to the knife or would any other problems arise from doing this that I should know about? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance.

Ps. I would like to keep the auto-LAWKS feature so removing the spring and the pin is of no interest to me...
