Hi all,

I have waited for about 6 months for a knife to be made by a good long customer and friend from the family ultimately he's a knife maker. The wait time was not an issue it was discussed. The main thing is I'm not happy with the final product of the knife. The blade is wonderful but the grip is not what I wanted. (If someone can reply with an email address I'll send some pictures your way so you can post it on here for me). The grip is micarta i wanted it to be full piece of grip micarta about 4" in length, no problem but he put groves in the grip similar to Ka bar used bowie knives! I brought the knife home and just had to give him a call, I thought it would set in and say in my head 'it's fine.' And so I called him, he pretty much said he'll fix it, "If push comes to shove," I'll make you another one! What do you guys think, his mistake would/ should I pay him to make another knife the way I truly wanted it?

Sincerely, Thanks for listening guys.

Let him fix it. A good knifemaker will do his best to please his customer. It seems to me that you are both at fault since you let him build the knife w/o understanding what the finished product would look like. Also, you'd be insulting him if you took it somewhere else to "fix".

Let him work on it first before deciding that you need a new one.

No no, I drew out what I wanted my knife to look like. But it is true he said he'll make it the way I want it.

If you're not happy with the looks and functionality of the handle he put on it then I would say have him rehandle it. If I discussed all the details of how I wanted my knife made and even sent him a concept drawing I would definately not be pleased if anything else was delivered without my OK. Thats pretty wierd really. But I'd probably give him another chance.

OK, but is shouldn't be too hard to replace the grip with a new one that is ungrooved. I would let him redo it as long as he doesn't try to charge you to make it the way you actually want.

Just got off the phone, the issue got resolved "You want it your way, not a problem." "Keep the knife for now until I make you the new one." If you guys are local in southern ca, and looking for a custom knife. I'll give you guys his number.

Why hide his name if he's a good guy?

You should post your experience in the GB&U subforum as a review. Give his name out, he deserves more business if he stands behind his work like that.

Great customer service deserves recognition... even if he screwed it up to start with

I hope the current iteration doesn't peform better than the way you wanted it.
