Well I went to the NCCA show up here in CT last week, and my target was to search out any knives made by Charlie Dake (from LA). I found a number of purveyors with his folders, and settled in on this particular gem from Gary Shaw's table.
Charlie is reknowned for a couple of things: his D/A knives and his filework. This one is NOT a D/A, and because of it I got even more of his filework!
You see, the backspring would sheild the backbar on his D/A's and since this is a simple lockback he filed it deep in the well, too. He even filed the bottom of the blade!
Mastodon scales and his beautiful oval inlay compliment the already superb overall lines on this. I'm real pleased with this purchase. Oh, and since it's a lockback, he has fitted dual inlaid thumbstuds, so it is a true 'ambi'.
The precision on his opening and locking 'click' has to be felt to really be appreciated. Please handle one at your first opportunity to see what I mean.
