Almost 9 years ago, some esteemed (?) members of this board took it upon themselves to write a "Heroic Saga of our own, recanting deeds of Satirical Battle, Wit, and Clashes of Terrible Irony."

"Verse, Ballads, Scaldic Verse and Sarcasms are Strongly encouraged," were the only requirements.

It was titled "Gerbil's Saga: A Tale of Many Parts." and was inspired by our former great member the Vampire Gerbil.

The story was added to, piece by piece by the adventurous folks from this elite group.

I don't remember much of the history of the Ironic Horde, but will do some research. I'll post what I can find of this mysterious organization, and see if I can resurrect the Saga. I copied down every last post and compiled it into a (somewhat) readable adventure.

If there's enough interest, I'd be happy to begin posting it here, or, at the least, sending copies by email.

I will occasionally pull it up on the screen, just to see what life was about back then. The references to the current knife culture are quite interesting. It's amazing to see what's changed, and what is exactly the same...

If there's anyone out there that cares or remembers, I'd be happy to hear about it. Otherwise, this thread can die a slow peaceful death.

I'm listening...

I was a Member in Good Standing with the Horde.
I remember Paracellsus, Jake Evans and VG, were very active Horders.
I don't remember what my Horde name was, maybe something to do with Brooklyn.
I was smoking a lot of dope back then.
I remember the epic poem, and I remember thinking, "Man that's a lot of reading, these guys must have an awful lot of time on their hands".

I am far too new (yet, paradoxically, too old) to remember this.

However, I did become a "Friend of Dave" before the end.

I'd love to see/hear this. :D

The Horde never dies. It only sleeps... to be awakened again at The Convergence.

"The Convergence?" you ask. "The convergence of what?"

Well, my friends, that is the beginning of the next installment of the tale

You may begin now.

I, myself, was not a member of the Horde, as I had little time to spend on the Forums, back then. Most of the fun stuff happened, and still happens, in the evenings, when I spend time with my family.

I did enjoy reading about the escapades of our colorful forum members, when I had the time.

I began reading the Saga, and couldn't bear to let it fall to the side, so took it upon myself to save the whole thing.

It is about 37 pages of 12pt Times New Roman, and 172Kb. That's after being edited, and compiled. I actually spent a lot of time trying to put it together, with lots of spell checking, and sentence restructuring. I looked on it as a labor of love.

Folks put a lot of effort into the writing, for the most part, :D so I don't feel it was wasted time, and I enjoyed it.

Anyway, I may start a thread with the first installment of the story.

DD, that is quite an amazing effort on your part.

I did a Search last night for threads about the Horde and came up empty.

I did come across some really interesting old threads from that period. One was started by Vampire Gerbil reporting the passing of Dr. Walt Welch. Someone added the Doc's post on Death when James Matthis passed away. Rob Simonich also posted on the thread. I can't tell you how many more are no longer with us from that time. They were some great times, I'm glad I had a chance to be a part of them.

Strange, I have not darkened the doorway of this place in years, and I come across a question the Horde, the one I decide to.

Got busy, got too jealous with all the toys I had denied myself. I wanted a dirk and sgian dubh set. Not a set, THE set. The set that calls to me, the set that claims me for owner. I promised my self almost a decade ago that I would not buy another knife that I did not need for a tool, until I had it. My quest ended at the North Texas Irish Festival earlier this year.

But, I digress, I was a member of the Hoard. One of the earliest, in fact. I do not remember if I had any posting to the thread you are talking about. I've done a fair share of living, and murdered a whole lot of Guinness kegs and scotch bottles since then.

I do remember meeting the founder of the Hoard and his wife, at the Tipperary in in Dallas when I went to the NTIF in 2000, though. Funny, I can't remember his name, either meatspace or cyberspace, but I can tell you that Turlough Boylan was on stage. I can even tell you what I had to drink that night, Murphy's Irish Red.

I do remember telling him that he cold recognize me by my hat and the hardware hanging off of me.

Please! Please!

I'm new, but I do love reading ancient history!:p:)

Please post or email to me.

Feneris, can you post a pic of the dirk and Sgian dubh? I have a strong appreciation for scottish/ celtic hardware!!!!
