good evening gents and gentle-women;). Currently I am partaking on a certain mixture of crown and drink (?) and for the past week or so I have been curious as to all this hogwash (oops:eek:) talk of single-malt this and that. So, I ask, what is a good brand for me to try to de-virginize me into the realm of Single-Malt Liquor!!!

Orange juice... straight up! I'm a rebel...:p:D:D ;) :foot:

No booze yet, I'm boxing mugs... Don't wanna screw that up!!!!! :)

Talisker is a really good single malt. The Glengoyne Port Finish is incredible!!!!!

Better yet. . . Grab a bottle of Pig's Nose. . . Probably the finest blended scotch next to Johnny Walker Blue there is and the coolest part is that it only costs about $25.00 a bottle!!!. . . .That means you can drink more!!!!!

Now, I'm thirsty!!!!!

ahh Johnny Walker Blue:)

Back in Jan. we had a convention/training to do in Chatt. We were staying at the Mariott Hotel and the first day we were there we all piled up at the bar downstairs(Chattanoogan). It was a posh little bar, alot of sophisticated women that I do love;) and the cutest little bartender who was half brazillian:eek:. Anyhoot, after 5 bud lights, 3 jack and cokes I decide to try out that bottle of Johnny Walker Blue, which had for some reason, a film of dust around the bottle. I told Marliynn that I wanted a shot and to give a shot to my fellow co-worker who was sitting rite beside me. After both shots hit the back of our throats, she gasp and stated she FORGOT THAT EACH SHOT WAS $45!

I choked for a second, while my buddy w/ his orange Tenn. hat peering over his wide blue eyes. But then I remembered two words that echoed which put a smile on my lips....PER DIEM!!!!

Gotta love traveling for work...LET´S DRINK!!!!!

Last time I saw Jeremy, he had a pretty mean bottle of Edradour.

Whoa! Port finish? Please explain.... I'm a HUGE Porto fan. Is that just how its described or is there something to the name actually in the finish?

Bourbon and wine barrels can only be used once, but they can be used to age scotch whiskey, they sell the casks to them, I find that the most flavor translates through the sherry casks, port wood also,, The Balivine and Abelour. Make a double wood matured 12 year! 6 years in Port casks. Then 6 years in sherry casks. These are some of Drew and my favorites! Heck I gave Drew a bottle at Knob Creek,, the bottle that is,,,,,,,,,, but it was filled with Tennessee Branch Water,,

So I say stay away from Blended Scotch, go for the real flavor,, (sorry for the shot to the junk, Bossman) lol

But if I had to pick a single malt Liquer over Single Malt Scotch Wiskey?

I would say a 40oz of Old English 800

It was the first thing I ever got sick on,,,,, I have not had it in 15yrs. Lol

Glenmorangie has alot of different Single Malts at decent prices. Glenfiddich (I such at spelling so forgive me) has a good variety too. If you dont mind spending 45 dollars or less there are a good number of single malts to look at.

One thing to remember is that Scotch's are all different some are SO different its unbelievable. You really cant try just one scotch and say you dont like or like it. You should try a high-land, low-land, speyside, Islay, Campbeltown (not many from this area) and there are different Island scotches as well (like Isle of Jurra). I own alot of different Scotches, I really like an Speyside and Islays....not as much on Highlands.

I believe you dont have to spend alot to get a good scotch, I love Lagavulin though which is around 65 to 70 here. You just need to try em and find what you like. New scotch makers offer Single Malts at good prices.....so sometimes you can find them.

Good luck on your Scotch Quest....sure to be a fun one.

Any Balvenie flavor is excellent Single Malt. Glenrothes Single Malt is surprisingly good and easier on the wallet too.

I am drinking Talisker 10yo. at the moment, very smoky and might not fit everyone.

Cheap and good IMHO is Glenfidich 12yo.
My favorite would be Macallan 19yo. and Santory Royal 15yo.

Also I like Royal Lochnagar 12yo. a lot.

For easy, off-the-shelf single malt, I like the Glenlivet 15. Smooth, with a little sweetness in the aftertaste.

The double cask single malt Balvenie is AWESOME stuff.

I lean heavily towards the Islay flavors, don't care as much for the fruittier flavors, although some are good. Though I had tried some scotches before (mostly blends), the first bottle I ever bought was Laphroaig 10yr. Since then, no matter what else I've bought, I've always kept a bottle of it around. Great stuff, but a very strong, gutsy flavor. Along the same lines, Ardbeg is pretty good, but not as  as Laphroaig.

The latest one I've been enjoying is Bunnahabhain 12yr. It's an Islay, but has a lighter flavor than the other's I've mentioned. It's good, as is the Talisker mentioned above.

To me, all these fall into that "best for your money" category. They don't cost an arm or a leg, but are still very good.

OP tells me that this is good advice. Apparently, Dalwhinnie is also a good starter single malt.

Personally, I don't drink the stuff. Just passing on my husband's advice.
