Hi,

I am a design student in the UK. As my final project I am designing a pocket tool aimed at the female market. I need to find out if there is a need for such a product, and/or what tools I should include.

It would be great if you could spare a few minutes to answer a few questions, and tell me what you would really like from your pocket tool.

Thanks,

1. How old are you?

2. How many pocket tools do you own? What are they?

3. Where do you keep your pocket tool?

4. What do you usually use your pocket tool for?

5. Which tools do you use the most?

6. Are there any tools that you would really like to see added or improved?

7. Are there any tools that you do not use/want?

8. What format of pocket tool do you prefer? i.e. credit card

9. Would you consider buying a tool that was primarily a grooming kit, but retained the functionality of a multi-tool?

10. Any other comments…

This is the only female I ever come across that that always has a pocket you could fit something in...

Some people don't like to read the posting rules.

Moving to Gadgets & Gear. Also, there is no need to post the same thread in 2 different forums.

1. How old are you? 45
2. How many pocket tools do you own? What are they? Personally 2, The family probably 10
3. Where do you keep your pocket tool? 4. What do you usually use your pocket tool for? Belt Pouch.
5. Which tools do you use the most? Simple repairs and household chores, around the horses, even at work, etc....
6. Are there any tools that you would really like to see added or improved? REally like the add/remove cabability of some where you can customize what you carry (like the jaws and screwdriver kits).
7. Are there any tools that you do not use/want? Have never used the saw personally...
8. What format of pocket tool do you prefer? i.e. credit card Have a small Gerber tool ring, but like the larger Gerber Multi-Plierfor most things.
9. Would you consider buying a tool that was primarily a grooming kit, but retained the functionality of a multi-tool? Probably not.
10. Any other comments… I used to laugh when my husband took hir with him everywhere. Now we both do!

Years ago, when Leatherman first came out with the Micra, I bought a bunch of 'em and gave 'em to everyone on my list as Christmas trinkets. I hesitated to give one to my mother since she just wasn't a knife person. But, I decided it would look poor giving everyone one except her so I gave her one figuring she'd toss it in a drawer somewhere.

No.

She tossed it in her purse and frequently sang the praises of it. The little scissors clipped coupons and stray treads, the little screwdriver exactly fit her glasses, the tweezers were very helpful, the file was prefect for smoothing a rough fingernail, and she even used the blade to open boxes. She loved the little Micra.

I'm a student in the UK. Feel free to get in touch with my if you want any more info from a uk point of view as I know people who own shops and hang about in blacks a lot

there are only a few knife typee tools that are really of concern to you (others are deicated outdoor stuff)

spyderco calypso jr which lives in the back pocket. It locks which isn't legal for the uk unless you have a good reason

victorinox climber mode which I cary in a small belt pouch. I really like the this as it has scissors that get used in my student flat as well as the tin opener

victorinox classic- the small one with the handy nail file and scissors. This is great as I don't bite my nails anymore. Girls seem to find this one cute

for lots of help from british people I suggest you ask the same thing on www.britishblades.com it has a law section which is worth a read as what you design will need to confirm with more laws then in the USA

There are a couple of women on there.

1. How old are you? 54

2. How many pocket tools do you own? What are they? 1, just a camp knife. zero if you don't count scout/camp/Swiss army knives. Something like a mini-leatherman might be handy though.

3. Where do you keep your pocket tool? purse

4. What do you usually use your pocket tool for?
slicing apples etc. opening cans, prying lids from vacuum jars, opening boxes and envelopes, prying things (screwdriver/bottle opener blade)

5. Which tools do you use the most? the standard blade

6. Are there any tools that you would really like to see added or improved? haven't thought about it.

7. Are there any tools that you do not use/want? Something that cuts packing tape without getting all gummed up with that gunky glue they use (house key seems to work better than a knife in that respect). Could use a small screwdriver blade for my glasses, maybe tweezers.

8. What format of pocket tool do you prefer? Something small and easy to carry that doesn't have pieces that can come off and get lost.

9. Would you consider buying a tool that was primarily a grooming kit, but retained the functionality of a multi-tool? Why? Would I want a toaster oven on a lawn mower? I like simple things that do one thing and do it well, rather than something that tries to do everything and manages to do all of them poorly.
