Sorry for the subject line..

Has anyone here removed the black coating on a BM M2 AFCK?? I'm aware of the potential corrosion issues, but might be prepared to do it anyway if others have had good luck with it. I've read the success stories with stripping Nimravii, but what about the AFCK???

I have thought about this myself. I love my M-2 AFCK, but that coating SUCKS!

I work with tooling at my full time job that's made of M2 and other easy rusting tool steels. Renaissance Wax for me, is the answer! Here in FL our manufacturing facility is open to the HUMID environment and rust is aways a problem. Of all the preventatives this stuff works the best.
Using the 'wax, my D2 knives hold up well saltwater fishing, as long as they are rinsed in freshwater when they return home.

I have not examined an M2 AFCK speciman, but if the coating extends over the length and breadth of the blade, pivot hole included, I would leave any coating in the pivot and tang area alone. This is mostly out of sight and needs protection from corrosion as water tends to "hide" in these areas.

Your topic certainly caught my attention. You might want to so a search of the archieves on this subject. I know this was discussed last year and there are pictures of the finished. One of the knives stripped was a Benchmade Nimvarus.

I haven't done an M2 AFCK, but I did do my M2 Nimravus Cub (see the "My naked M2 Nimravus Cub!). I wouldn't worry about the AFCK, except as misque said, in the pivot area. That is, if the pivot area even has BT to start with.
