Calling BM CS for parts

I've read on here that some people were successful in calling Benchmade CS and getting them to send omega springs and barrel spacers. I'm wondering what was said in order to convince them to do so? I'm trying to have two broken omega springs replaced, as well as have barrel spacers installed instead of the backspacer. I'd refuse to mail these as I have had multiple items lost in the mail recently and these are limited edition models.

can't say about springs, but I bent the pocketclip on a balisong and they sent me a new one right away. Seems like it would be easiest to call and find out.

There are seeral ways to ensure it arrives, they are expensive but they will get there. Not sure how the OP got knives stolen in the past, but I can't say I blame him for being cautious, especially with LE knives. My advice would be something like 2 day air via USPS, with full insurance for the percieved value.

I called, they wouldn't send springs or spacers. I will not send these knives. I would rather buy cheaper ones, cannibalize the parts, and send those back instead. However I'm really not liking that policy and it has me looking at other brands altogether.

Going through all that to ship and ensure is a hassle and expensive. Not to mention the shipping companies rarely honor the insurance. Still working on getting paid for a rifle valued at over 2k that was "lost" in shipping. Was fully insured.

What!? Who are you shipping with? I've never had a problem with USPS. They've never lost anything I've ordered or shipped. I'm surprised they would drag their feet honoring a lost item claim.

That incident was with UPS. USPS has lost items as well. I am 1 for 4 on griptillians actually getting to me when shipped through USPS. Luckily the vendor has been helpful in sending a replacement. Frankly I don't trust any of the shipping companies and will not ship my LE knives, ever. Besides, paying $30 for shipping and insurance to send the knife back and forth is a little ridiculous compared to paying $3 to just ship the springs.

If your receiving rate is that bad it must have something to do with where you live. If I were you I'd try having any future purchases sent to a PO box.

That does not sound too far fetched a possibility. Stealing mail while it is in possession of the USPS seems like it could be tracked to a specific location or area.

The only way they send out omega springs is if you live in another country and the cost and risks are high.

If you have gotten 1 of 4 knives, I would say your neighbor has a pocket full of knives and a rifle.

Anyways, have you thought about making new springs? It is pretty easy. In fact that is one of the reasons I like the AXIS lock. I can fix it at home without sending it in. You can also buy barrel spacers from a knife maker website.

I have never lost an item from the mail, either UPS or UPS. This includes many valuable items. Sounds like you are surrounded by thieves, where do you live?

I'm on a naval base, we have our own post office on station. The griptillians never made it to the local post office, they got lost at the capital heights center. Two of them eventually turned up weeks (one was 2 months) later, the last was replaced by the vendor. The rifle was shipped to an FFL off base, but was lost in transit according to the tracking number. Highly doubt it was my neighbors as the packages never made it into my state.

That explains it Lenny. You got some thieves in your internal mail area. Might be a good idea to bring that up to a CO of some sort.

Lenny,

On the base you are currently stationed, is there an actual U.S Post Office or is it a mail collection point you take your mail that base postal clerks then take to the PO?

Also, who is delivering your mail to you? Is it the USPS directly to your door or to the mailroom that's staffed by base personnel that you go pick it up or they deliver to you?

Reason I ask is if it's going threw the base or navy mail clerks you really need to make a complaint to not only the person in charge but your CO via the chain of command, try the Command Master Chief, as this is very serious if your mail is disappearing. Especially valuable items you paid for.

If it's the USPS that is "losing" your mail then a serious complaint needs to be made to the USPS, not only the local PO but call the 800 number too. They will take this very seriously too.

Anyway you cut it this is completely unacceptable that your mail is being stolen. Both will take it seriously and take action.

As far as UPS and the FFL, firearms are required to be declared as such and UPS insurs automatically up to a certain dollar amount. If someone stole a firearm it's a federal crime and I'm sure the sender is following up. No excuse for you not to at least get your money back on that one.

I hope this problem gets sorted out going forward. It's completely unacceptable your not getting your mail.

The items through USPS were lost en route, never made it to the PO on base. 2 out 3 of the items eventually made it to me quite a long time later. The last one is gone.

Myself, the FFL, and the shipper are all working through UPS and it looks like there will be progress. These experiences make me hesitant to send LE items.

I ended up taking omega springs from a cheaper model and sending that one.
