Question:
What was the stock thickness of the SHBA-A2? I just measured mine at 0.300, is that normal or a fattie?

Thanks in advance!

Yes, many of the fatties of the late 90's were around 0.3" coated, uncoated closer to 0.29". But I did have a few that were in the 0.25- 0.27" as well. This is true for INFI of that time as well. Most likely because they both came from the same mill. Mulder is the king of SHBA's but I have not seen him on the forums much. He could give us both a lesson on SHBA's.

So, if my SHBA Stripped User is a smooth bolt and the metal is not pock marked, does that mean that it might be INFI and not A2? have not tried the bluing test, and really do not care. Either way, she is a bute and a fat piggie that will scare hair right off your arm!

Thx!

No it is definitely A2. The pock marks(dimples) were common to INFI but the later A2 blades had it as well just not as much of it. It was a mark of the processing not the steel, but we all associate it with the steel. I would take Busse's old A2 over just about any modern steel. The processing(HT) is what makes the difference.
