I want to get a nice 4-5 inch woods/bush/camp knife for the summer. The G1- RC-4 is on my list but recently the Bravo has gotten my attention.
Its just one hell of a sexy blade and i want to try a convex knife.
I've been a fan since i got my first ESEE knife so i would like to ask what other ESEE users think about the Bravo-1, compared to the 4 if possible.

I will probably get both anyway but the point is which to get for the summer and which goes on the waiting list :)
And yes, i know i cant go wrong with either one ;)

I am not fond of Barkie threads in the ESEE forum but I will say I own Bravo1,Gunny,Fox river now and love them... I have own also Aurora,Mikro,PSK,Canadian special, games keeper,Northstar, min Canadian,BRKT Machete and a few other models that escape me and if it is made from A2 steel I like 'em. BRK&T make a Great product.
Bravo1 is a good knife but you'll find the Foxriver or Gunny would make a Better choice IMO.
Fox river ,Northstar, Aurora make a Better Bushcraft than the Bravo 1 but others will scream the oposite as well.
If I had to Sale all of my BRK&T Blades and keep only 1..... I'd keep the Fox River Best Barkie model ever IMO

I've had a Bravo1 for about 2 years. I've owned several BRKTs and have sold a few. Currently I have a rampless Bravo1 , I hated the thumb ramp and had it removed about 6 months after getting it. I do like the knife alot. I also have an Escort, Boone, Aurora, Lite hunter,Gameskeeper2, Big mountain skinner, Necker, and huntsman. I also have their Halo Attack that they make under the Black Jack name. That being said my next knife I want is an ESEE. I just cant decide which one. Really leaning toward a DT4.

The Bravo-1 is a great knife. I have a couple of Bravo-1s that I like quite a bit but I just don't use them anymore. I am not really sure why. Lately, there are only a handful of knives that I actually use (ESEE, Laconicos, and an NWA).

I have a bravo 1, I took the ramp down a little, and will most likely completely loose it in the future. I use an ESEE a lot more. Not sure why, just do.. I think the bravo is a little thick.

This 4 is a nice shiny new one..... LOVE this knife.:D:thumbup:

Thank you for that picture. I've been wanting to see a B1 and an ESEE 4 next to each other. Hey you dont have a photo with the 3, 4, and b1 do you?

I have a Bravo-1 and absolutely love it. At times if I use it for extended use my hands get tired. I don't know if the liners have added too much thickness or not. I work with my hands in a restaurant and I am use to handling a knife all day long. The only other ESSEE knife I have that I can compare it to is a RC-3. Well I have a Izula but that isn't in the same category.
I do love carrying my RC-3 as well and am aiming to get a RC-4.
A friend of mine and I have swapped knives and he wants a BRavo-1 now. He has a RC-4.

Eloreno, what scales are those on your B1? I don't remember ever seeing ones like them in the Barkie galleries.

I am pretty sure they're called twisted denim. Saw it and I HAD to have it. :D

If you have big hands you might find the BRKT's give you more room. I have an ESEE-4 (RC-4 actually, I assume they're the same) and although an awesome knife I wish the main handle was a little longer.

The biggest advantage for me with the BRKT Bravo 1 is due to my biggest weakness. I can sharpen a convex edge to razor sharp in a matter of minutes. I cannot sharpen anything else. I can't even get anything else from dullest to dull.

Bravo1 is a great blade & so is the Liten Bror. I like Bark River knives. They are made well and work great, just like many other knives (Koster bushcrafter). But, like most here, I just prefer to use my RC 3, 4 and Izula.

I have a Bravo-1 and am on the fence about it. I know I don't like convex edges so thats one strike against it right out of the gate. But that can be fixed.

What can't be fixed is the obscene blade thickness. Feels too thick for a knife of it's length.

The handle on the other hand is pure perfection. I couldn't ask for a more ergonomic, comfortable and good looking handle on a knife. That handle is the only reason the knife has stuck around.

The handle is awsome. I have mixed feelings on the convex. While alot of folks think they are easier to keep sharp, I actually find it more dfficult for myself . It is as you stated a very thick blade. The Aurora has a similar handle but a blade thickness of only .17. But the Aurora also has a very pointy tip. This is one reason the ESEE4 has really caught my attention. I really like the overall size and shape of the knife. I have a feeling its just a matter of time before I buy one. As I said before, I kind of feel odd on the ESEE forum and all I own is a couple of th AH1s.:D

Like texastony, I too love my Bravo-1's (I have 2). I also love my Gunny (just realized that I don't have a picture of my Gunny  ).

Ditto for my RC-3 (I don't own a 4, yet, anyway), but in all honesty, if the wonderful guys (did I mention handsome, and smart?) at ESEE come out with a H.E.S.T. without a bottle opener, that would be the one I would carry on day hikes - day hikes occur way more often than extended ones, anyway.

As it is, the H.E.S.T. I just received is going everywhere with me. It is one fine knife (almost............. )

Guess I better give equal time to my RAT's.

Anyway, either choice would be good, IMHO.
