Caly 3.5 construction limits use?

Just got a caly 3.5 and it's the sharpest, slimmest, slickest Spyderco I've ever owned (that includes Stretch, green Manix2, blue PM2, GB), and it is now my workday edc.

However, since this model can't be disassembled, I'm wondering if other caly 3.5 owners have encountered problems with using the knife on camping trips/yardwork and having dirt/debris build up around the blade pivot in a way that diminishes its smooth action. Do I need to take any special precautions, or should I use just like I would models that can be taken apart?

Thanks for any guidance. I'm hoping to use this gem for years to come.

I EDCed Caly3 for about five years and than Caly3.5 for about a year and half. I did use it much on the yard much, but had to clean few times. Just washed it with soupy hot water and dried it. Usually after that I dropped an oil on pivot screw. BTW, you want for better cleaning, you can take pivot screw off and remove the blade. i never did it though.

This is just my opinion, I don't believe that this knife is the right choice for use in a gardening or camping environment. For those two activities, there are quite a lot of proven tools that can be used with much more success. It might be safe to say that when people think of the Caly series, the last thing they think in fact is yardwork/camping.
Washing the knife out with warm soapy water should make short order of most junk that can get into the pivot though. Blow out the excess water with keyboard duster and oil as needed.

+1
Certainly. With all my love to calys I would take Temperance2 or most of mules mule over Caly for these activities any time.

I think a small ultrasonic jewelry cleaner is almost a must for all pocket knife owners. You'd be very surprised at how much dirt and debris comes out of what looks like a pretty clean knife.

But like others have said, You wouldn't catch me dragging a Caly through the dirt.

in all my years of owning spydies and putting them through mud, dirt, concrete mix, swimming, sand, etc I've never once taken one apart. you'll be fine, and I think a caly would make an excellent yard and camp folder.

I've used mine rough. It works fine. I take the blade out of mine for cleaning, and use compressed air as well as sonication if it is really dirty. I've never had a problem. It's a fine knife for light yard work and making marshmallow sticks/whittling. It's also big enough to take apart birds and trout without much issue. It's not ideal for cutting tent stakes, prying, or trying to baton wood.
