Just locking this up guys. If you want more pictures or something feel free to ask. I don't want this to seem all dramatic. I am fine with it.
Okay guys, since I feel it will be necessary to preface this with I am not bashing Spyderco. I just got a Spyderco Caly 3.5 in Super Blue from a reputable dealer it was brand new. Now this is a grail knife for me. I had been looking around for one forever. I was eyballing it after handling it for awhile. And I realized it has a decent amount of bend near the tip of the blade. Now I remember Jdavis making a thread about 4 of his ZDP-189's having some bend. So is this normal to a degree? I know it doesn't really hinder performance at all.

Thought I read a post recently about a few examples with the Super Blue blades. Someone else with a better memory will chime in soon I'll bet.

Thanks. I am going to keep it and use it. I planned on making it a user anyway. So its not a big worry, I was just curious what some other Spydie lovers had to say.

I just looked at mine & there's no bend in it whatsoever.

Good thing if its a isolated problem then. Its a production knife so I am not gonna freak. However I did have to pay a bit of a markup. So thats where it hurts moreso.

I only have one of the Superblue Caly3.5 models and it is pretty straight, nothing jumped out that I could see.

I've had a few Shuns that weren't straight. I just got a left handed paring knife a week ago and the blade had enough curve in it out of the box that I almost shipped it back--when I opened it the first thing I noticed was the how curved it was. In the end I just bent it back to straight by hand.

With a knife blade as thick as most pocket knives you will probably need a vice and very careful pressure so as not to snap the blade.

No bend in my super blue, but the last step of the jimping
towards the front is not perfectly perpendicular to the edge
of the blade spine and so creates an optical illusion of having
a bent blade if looking at it from behind the handle. Which is
something I do maybe once a year.

It's been a joy to use so far and the patina is coming along
well. I had not eaten so many apples and oranges before I
got the knife.

I think when you look at the bend is because the grind is off. My cf zdp 3.5 looks like it has bend only when i look down on the grinds and not on the spine.

Thanks for the feedback guys. The bend isn't terrible and I don't think it really hinders performance right? Its also just near the tip.

If I bought a new knife and it was bent, it would be going back immediately.

I can't imagine a bent blade though... Are we talking really bent or an OCD thing?

Define an ocd bend and one that denotes being sent back asap. It has a slight bend neae the tip.

Not to pick nits, but the tip doesn't appear bent, just ground asymmetrically.

That could be. But the edge does appear bent at the tip. Different than just ground more on one side. It actually scoops and you can see it against a straight edge.

Thanks for adding the picture. Difficult to tell if it's bent or just ground asymmetrically. Personally, I'd be less than satisfied if it was in fact bent, given the price I paid for it. But, you have to consider the limited numbers produced too, that may just convince you to keep it and overlook a small "asymmetry". It is a great design with great steel. It's my most frequent carry.

Its not a terrible bend or anything, and boy did it still sharpen up nice :D. At any rate, I talked to the dealer whom I got it from, and since I sharpened it, they couldn't take it back because it was considered used, which I understand. I didn't notice the bend till after sharpening and stuff.

Yeah, that definitely looks odd in the picture. So it's not perfectly flat on that left side? If it was flat on that side then I would say it's a flaw in the distal taper on the right side grind. If it's actually bent, then maybe someone dropped it and it actually bent instead of snapping off. I don't know enough about super blue, but maybe it's a fairly tough steel and not brittle.

In any case, it adds character to your knife and still works hey? Hope it doesn't drive you nuts in the long run. Maybe Sal will know if it can be safely fixed without breaking it.
