I really like the Caly series. I have the Super Blue sprints.
Just received the ZDP/CF version. Have to say that while I'm satisfied, this great design is simply not that well executed by the Seki-City manufacturer.
One scale has an easily visible gap on the inside that I can slide a piece of paper into.
The blade is over sharpened, especially noticeable at the base. (Same problem with my Super Blue version.)
When closed the tip stuck too far out - I sanded down the kick a little with a Dremel to fix it.
And finally, the lamination line is very asymmetrical.

These days I'm not super picky in the sense that I want to get rid of this knife. I'll carry and use it. But I have a discerning eye and this knife doesn't measure up to my recently received Delica and falls a mile short of the Taiwan-made Spydercos as well as the USA-made ones.
In short, I don't think it's a great deal. There are better Spydies out there.

I agree! The Tiawan Spydercos are first rate. My bushcraft is custom quality.

That's not good to hear. I can't argue the unsmooth metal and the scale gap are major issues but the non-straight lamination line isn't necessarily a problem, that's just how it is with the laminated blades.

I must say my VG10 caly 3.5 is one of the best Spydercos I have ever had as far and F&F goes. Its on par with any Taiwan and USA made Spyderco I have ever seen.

Maybe its just because mine is the VG10 G10 model but I cant fault this knife at all.

I have a Caly 3.5 with ZDP-189 & CF so I just checked mine for the same issues you encountered. The only issue I can corroborate is the asymmetrical lamination lines. However, that's NOT a fault but a nature of lamination.

I would've returned it to the dealer for a replacement. Additionally, in such cases I ask that they hand pick one for me with special attention to the encountered issues.
