Caly 3 blade warped?

I just got a new Caly3 with VG-10 and it appears that the blade is slightly warped. I figure it is possible that it is simply misaligned and not bent/warped, but when looking down the top of the blade, I'm quite positive that I can see it curve slightly.

Is this possible? Is this common? What can I do about it? I'm not really sure it will really hurt anything... but I'm afraid it will when it comes time to sharpen it.

TIA

Sorry........... just did some searching and I found out this isn't all that uncommon.

I'm actually quite positive it is warped... I, basically, laid each side of the blade flat on a table and, sure enough, one side has movement that matches up with the curvature of the blade.

It's not so bad that it is causing rubbing problems, but like I said above, I'm afraid it is going to be PITA when it comes time to sharpen.

Should I attempt to have Spyderco replace/fix it?

If it bothers you, send it to W&R. If it is within manufacturing tolerance, they will tell you. If it isn't, they will repair or replace it.

I have carried, used and sharpened more than a few knives with bent/warped/curved blades. If the bend is sharp enough, it can cause problems. Mostly it doesn't bother me.

If you are noticing it and it concerns you enough to post this thread, I recommend that you send it back. I did that about a year ago with a Blade Tech Ganyana. They sent me another that was perfect with no questions asked. I'm sure Spyderco will do the same.

Good luck.
:)

Good point. I will see what I can do. Thanks

I had a similar problem with two of the same knives from another major manufacturer and sent 'em back. Customer service told me the blades weren't warped (I had actually taken them out of the knife - not possible with a Caly 3) and checked them on a machinist's straightedge - they were definitely warped!), but the knives came back with new blades nevertheless. Go ahead and send it in.

I had the same problem with the sprint run Caly ZDP I got. Unfortunately because it was a sprint run and they were all gone, there was nothing Sal and the guys at Spyderco could do. I decided to just use it, and I'm glad I did! It's one of my most used edc blades:D
