Caly 3 question

Ok, so I'm heavily leaning towards a Caly 3 with the CF & ZDP-189 as my next purchase. One hot-button issue with me, however, is one-handed operation. I must be able to easily open and close the knife with one hand. I've owned the original Manix before, which was also a lockback, but it was easy to close it with one hand with the finger choil that it offered. So my question is to anyone who has played a bit with a Caly 3 and an original Manix, can you close the Caly in the same manner as you could that Manix?

One thing you will find with the CF/ZDP Caly, is that when broken in, the blade action becomes smooth as glass. With this in mind, I simply release the latch and the blade drops 90 degrees, where I can easily close it with my thumb.

I don't own a Caly 3 but a Calypso jr. I own too an original Manix. No problem to one-hand close those two knives. I would even say it's a pleasure for ambidextrous people.

The Caly 3 is probably almost as good as the Calypso is. You can't go wrong with it.

dantzk.

Not difficult at all. Not as easy as liner locks or frame locks but almost as easy to close. Opening is a snap, of course.

yep, same with me. awesomely smooth action, tight lockup and closing is a cinch because the blade drops on its own when the lock is disengaged.

you could do the drop, or you can disengage the lock with your thumb and use your index finger in the hole to guide it down. thats how i do with my native.

This us what I do with my Caly 3. Really, I do it with most of my Spyderco's.

On my back lock spydercos I would release the lock with my thumb while folding the blade down with the outside of my right leg. I did that for roughly 6 years with a Delica3 as my only EDC. Actually I find myself doing the same thing with my liner lock Sage1 quite often.

Carrying my Carbon Fiber ZDP189 Caly3 right now. Been carrying it exclusively, since I temporarily retired the much larger BG42 Carbon Fiber Military. Love this knife. :)

Thanks guys, I'm sold! That will be my next knife purchase.

And you WILL be very pleased with it. Was carringing mine today and I cant believe how long it keeps an edge. Ive had mine before they made it to the site, used it to cut, LOTSA times, and the little sob still shaves, Never even stropped it. Granted I dont do alot of heavy cutting but still, it stays sharp FOREVER, real sharp
