Caly 3 VG-10 G-10

While we have phenomenal sprint runs of Caly 3 line and excellent ZDP carbon fibre model of the same ,I still feel like the VG-10 G-10 model was the one.Wish Spyderco brings this one back and hope there is more of us who are for it.What do you people think,and post your pics please of this great knife.Cheers.
 
I've got a G10/VG-10 Caly 3.5, does that count? :D
I'm still a G10/Super Blue Caly 3 user though...
Caly 3 is one of my favorites to have in my pocket.


It's funny that you start this thread though, because there is a thread here on the Kiwi, of the same exact make and materials, and similar line as the Caly, yet multiple people felt the need to bash it in that same thread, for lack of exotic materials and price that is too high.
Then simultaneously, there are threads (moreso on Spyderco forum) asking and pleading for a G10 Delica and Endura!

Just got me thinking...
 
I'am just looking for some love for G10 Caly 3, that's all.Would like to see it back in production,if happens great if not hey, life goes on.Yes we all want exotics and better steel in our knives but there is something with Caly 3 and the original look.Simple,clean,utilitarian, pure classic.When I think of Spyderco, Caly 3 G-10 comes to my mind first.

Everything you'd need in that clean basic understated package of black G10 and proven steel all in a Spydergonomic package! :thumbup:



I want the G10 Kiwi to go along with my Caly's, but was surprised by people who didn't even own one coming out of the woodwork to put down the folder in G10/VG-10, for no apparent reason. :confused:



I guess the problem with many things is when you attain success in something that works, people get too accustomed, and boredom sets in leading some people to want something flashier and exotic to catch their eye.

I have the CF/ZDP-189 version, and it is my favorite Spyderco knife. I expect I'd also really like the original G10 version, as I've had great experience with the VG-10 on my other Spydies.

The bashing is part of the Spyderco cycle for some knives. When the Techno came out, people hated it. I started a thread to say how I liked mine and everyone yammered about how it wasn't worth the money, was too thick, too ugly, too Taiwanese, blah blah. Now of course everyone loves it.

Some knives don't start getting real love until they are discontinued. Once no one can buy one, everyone can complain about how overlooked it was, and how sad it is that Spyderco discontinued such an iconic model, only to turn around and hate on a new model.

And around it goes.

Either way, I know exactly what you mean.
I think it's the same way with the Chubby right now too.

Not only for knives though, seems to be a common American culture thing... look at all of the celebrities and musicians, etc who all got broken down and disected by the media and hated on... then died and then become huge success and in demand.
 
I'd also love a PE VG-10/G10 Caly 3. I've got a VG-10/G10 Caly 3.5 and a ZDP-189/CF Caly 3. Unfortunately I was too late to the Spyderco party to get a Caly 3. I prefer G10 and CF over FRN and FRCP by a long shot.
 
Totally agree with this thread - my favourite Spyderco knives are my Caly's (3 & 3.5). The VG10 varient ticked all my boxes for stain resistance, performance and ease of sharpening... :(

I am just holding out hope that there will be some useful sprint runs. ;)

I have the vg10 and zdp189 versions. I think that the caly 3 is a very refined pocket knife. It has an elegance that no other spyderco has. The only other spyderco that comes close imho is the original kiwi. It is very much an office, slacks/suit type of knife. That being said, it is by no means a strict light duty knife.
 
Got my first Caly on Saturday. It's the 3.5 g10 model. I gotta say, I wish I would have grabbed one sooner. It's a great model. Fantastic slicer and excellent ergos. I plan on adding either a 3 or 3.5 ZDP to the list, since I don't have any ZDP currently.

I just purchased the Caly 3.5 in ZDP-189 CF I cant wait for her to get here and I would have liked the VG-10 blade but that only comes in g10 scales which I am not a big fan of.
VG-10 is probably my favorite EDC blade steel for many reasons

It wasn't mine, but I was trying to save it from the haters.... and yeah I know what you mean. When I first heard Amy Winehouse I thought it was genius, but I had to wait until she was dead before my friends were willing to agree with me.

Just get it anyway. A Caly 3.5 can be had for right about $100 right now, and when existing stock dries up that is going to change dramatically.
