Bought this knife recently, and it's awesome. A couple of nit-picks, but it's awesome. The line between the steels is wavy and looks a tiny bit sloppy, and it has blade play.

Is this normal? For anyone else with this knife, do you have the same problems?

Uneven lamination lines are normal
Is it up/down bladeplay?
Lockbacks do that
Could also just be flexing

My recently purchased Caly 3.5 VG10 has no play at all in any direction, but the blade is slightly off center. Its not enough to rub the liners so for me its fine as this is an edc.

Waves are normal, and my brown caly, my 3.5 zdp and my 3 all have minor up and down play. No biggie at its no designed for hardcore use, simply a gents knife.

I don't think I've seen a laminated caly 3 without a wave. I think it's unique and shows the layering. As far as blade play goes, mine had blade play as well. I would say take the pivot and blade out, clean and oil the blade and inside pivot area, then adjust pivot. Mine was disgusting and needed a serious cleaning right out of the box. Up and down blade play on a production lockback is normal, but should be minimal. The few lock backs I own from various companies all have a tiny but, but not noticeable during use. There are no washers in the pivot so disassembling to remove the blade is super easy. Good luck and enjoy. It's a great knife.

The lamination line is rarely "perfectly symmetrical"' of all the laminated models I own (4) they are all unique, and I kind of like it. While it's not totally off kilter, it adds a little character to the knife I think. Most traditional lock back knives have some small degree of play, not a lot. It's said to be so the lock can adjust over time. I don't know how much accuracy there is to that last statement though.

I don't have a caly, but have other laminated knives, and the line is uneven on all of them.
Also don't have a single lockback without some vertical play.

As all have said the line is normal. Some lockback's will have a small amount of play, but my ZDP/CF Caly 3 doesn't.

Thanks for the confirmation of the wavy line being normal, everyone.

As for the play, it's minor so it doesn't bug me too much. It's also perfectly centered and is stupid sharp. Awesome knife, I love ZDP.
