Lost my Caly Jr. zdp today while working in the yard putting up Christmas lights. Owned it a total of 5 days, carried a total of 2 days. Only cut two things with it... the pad of my thumb while screwing around opening/closing the knife with my off-hand while watching tv, and the tape that held the coiled up extension cord I used today.

Now it sits outside somewhere in the yard. No doubt in one of the many piles of leaves, dirt, mud, branches and debris around the property. Thought I had a good chance of finding it because I noticed it missing from my pocket relatively shortly after using it to cut the tape. My travel path between the time I used it and when I noticed it missing seemed to encompass a relatively small area. However, I looked all over for that thing to no avail. Sure hope I don't run over it with the lawn-mower next spring, that zdp may frag up my mower blade...;)

Does anybody still have these in stock, or are they all gone? I know if I order another one, I'll find the old one the next day... and if I don't order another one, I'll never find the old one... such as things go.

Feel bad for you, man. Have you tried searching your lawn with a magnet?

Sounds like metal detector time, a good "detectorist" could locate your knife in about 10 minutes or less by using all metal mode and key in on only shallow targets.

Lots of the new detectors have a shallow target alarm that will ring out on anything on top of the ground, especially under leaves or stuff like that.

Robbie Roberson;)

Oh no!! I DO hope you find it!!! I too was going to suggest searching your yard with a magnet.

How sad it is!:( I do hope you find your Caly. If you don't have access to a metal detector you could go to a hardware store and get one of those "telescoping magnet on a stick" things. Hope you find it, good luck!

I hope you find it soon!! That would not be one that I would want to lose.

Find out who owns a metal detector and borrow it. No point in losing a good knife.

Some of the high strength magnets are good too. My drive has pea gravel, and after a flat on my wife's vehicle, I recently used one of those "magnets on a stick" to drag it. I found an amazing number of screws, nails, and hunks of metal.

Another vote for the metal detector. I lost my keys while shooting up in the woods during the winter. I'd gone in and out on the same trail and while I had no luck searching for them, when I went back later with a metal detector I found them. Good luck man.!

Check all of your pockets. And under the couch. And the last place you'd expect to find it. It's probably in one of those places.

Thanks guys, good tip about the metal detector. I should have thought of that, but I guess I was too distressed when I made the original post. ;)

I think my sister has a detector at her place I can barrow.

Also recheck any clothing, coats, etc you were wearing at the time. I've read a few stories where people put the knife in a different pocket and found their missing knife months later. :)

Rouind up a bunch of the neighborhood kids that you know and tell them you'll take them all to McDonalds if they find your knife with the finder getting a special prize of some sort.

Never mind, it would be cheaper to buy a new one.

The snow finally melted away and I was able to find it relatively quickly with the metal detector (thanks for the idea). It was under a bunch of leaves as I suspected. Leaves which closely matched the Burgundy color of the handle of course.

It was a bit dirty and of course wet, but cleaned up fine. There was just the slightest hint of surface rust starting on the spine of the blade but this came right off with some light steel wool. Washed it off, blew it dry, and put a small drop of clp on the pivot point and the blade. Should be good to go now.

Been using my native in place of the Jr. this last week and have really come to love the pointy tip on the native. I'm doing an install job now where I find myself using the tip to pry open some little plastic clip thingies on a frequent basis. The tip on the native seems pretty stout. I'm going to switch back to the Jr. for the second half of this job and see how the Jr. does in the same application.

Glad to hear the good news. Use it well

I for one am very happy that you found your Caly!! Thanks for letting us know.

Good find. Thanks for following up. Glad your Caly is safe.

Wayne,

That is fantastic that you found it the metal detector was a very good idea. I fear from the above quote the next update in this thread will be "I broke the tip off my Caly Jr."

I have a VG10 caly Jr which lost about the last mm on the tip. It served me well though as I was using it to depress a little plunger on a door knob to allow me to remove it as it had failed and I was locked in a room at work. This had happened before and they though the knob was fixed but it failed while I was in the room and would not open. I knew the knob would have to be removed to allow me top get out. As I depressed a small plunger and slid the outer casing off of the knob the very last bit on the tip of the Caly was snapped off. I now have a Caly that I don't have to worry about keeping sharp on my sharp maker for fear of rounding that razor sharp tip. It is still as sharp pf a point as 99% of other knives out there have!

Glad to hear you found your lost one! I really thought about you a lot, almost lost some sleep over that Caly Jr.;)
