I admit it, I like tacti-cool knives. I have the standard assortment of Millies, AFCK, TSEK, Socom Elite, SMF... But I have also been interested in different kinds of steels...Hence comes the Spyderco Caly Super Blue.

What a cool steel Super Blue is! I doesn't hold an edge like M390 nor is it tough like Elmax. It rusts readily but wow...it takes a fine edge and it takes it readily. Plus, it all comes in a small package and still packs a 3.5" blade! The blade geometry makes it a super slick slicer and the tip is needle sharp.

Anyway, I got this off the forums recently and couldn't help but play with it. I polished off the patina, convexed the edge and even rounded the spine.

So, here's some eye pics of my fun. Maybe I'll start up with non-tacti-cool knives......2012-10-06 18.18.34.jpg2012-10-06 18.19.18.jpg

Super blue is one thing I don't have in the Powernoodle Arsenal. But maybe someday.

I've wanted one for a minute.. looks like a slick piece! Will that mirror'd blade stay that way or will it patina up? I just wonder cause I always heard polished edges and stuff keep rust away better. I had a mirror edge put on my SMF 3v and haven't seen a spec yet.. heres hoping. :)

Super Blue actually does pretty well wear resistance wise. No, it's true it's not up to M390 standards, but it does pretty well when compared to the 440C, VG10, etc. class. The edge stability is excellent, and it takes anything from a 320 grit finish on up into the 8-10K range.

Very, very clean stuff for an ingot steel. Hitachi really hit one out of the park on their white and blue steels both.

Id show off mine too but its still bundled up in that rust free paper! I have a hard time using sprints so I usually double up. Im on the hunt for a second sb caly, would like to actually to enjoy the steel and take cool pictures.

Yeh, I have another one that's a pre-need replacement. :D

To 13aphomet, the polished surface is suppose to resist rusting and patina, but I've noticed small specs of corrosion here and there. I also have an SMF 3V (nice taste), but I've never noticed any corrosion of any kind on that blade. Super Blue is definitely more prone to corrosion than 3V.

I'm actually happy I found a user off the forums...it removed the guilt of using a sprint run!

To Singularity35 in the Philippines, will the hot humid climate (and sweat of living in your pockets) cause rust easily or do you just keep your blade with patina on it? I live in a very arid climate...just wondering what this blade will do in humid climates.

I hear ya man.. I would want a user too.. But honestly I'd take anything at this point. These things are hard to come by.
Even if I had a new one I'd prolly look for fruit to cut just to patina it up!!
Now find me one!! :)
