Caly3 -- Disco'd?!?

Someone mentioned in a thread about FRN Calys that a dealer website is listing the PE models (Spydie edge is already gone) as discontinued. Can anyone (Sal, Tazkristi...) confirm this, or even hear this anywhere else?

If true, I gotta get some cash together and grab one, as it was the Caly3 (and Mini Ritter Grip) that drew me into this hobby earlier this year. And for some strange reason I have yet to move on one, even buying other Spydercos before the Caly, even though it is still one of my favourite designs. I guess I took it for granted that it would be around for awhile, instead opting to get models with shorter shelf lives, like an orange Military and D2 Para.

But I have a feeling the website in question mixed up the PE and SE version. Although think I remember someone (Tricod22?) who reviewed the Caly on YouTube mentioning that it was in process of being redesigned/updated.:(

I would be very, very surprised to see the caly3 disco'd. It should be one of Spyderco's better selling models.

I sent Jeff at the Cutlery Shoppe an e-mail to see if he could provide any details. Maybe Sal or Kristi will be able to comment as well?

It wouldn't surprise me to see this happen. Sal did mention that the Caly 3 is an "Afi" model.

Somebody was probably talking about the FRN handled Calypso Jr. model, which has been discontinued for quite some time.;)

Got a reply from Jeff at the Cutlery Shoppe, he's going to check with his distributor tomorrow and get the scoop.

What? Say it ain't so! The Caly3 is a great workhorse model and introduction to Spydies in general. Low wire clip, smooth backlock, exceptional (as always) ergos, VG-10 blade with a great shape.

No word from Spyderco on the issue. :(

David can be right. In tough times, tough choice has to be made. IMHO VG10/ G10 Caly3 is an excellent EDC, but we do not know if Caly3 makes any cash to stay in production. With current dollar-yen exchange and acceptance of Taiwanese-Chinese models may be "made in Japan" share of Spyderco will be reduce very significantly in very near future and Caly3 is the one of few, which will have to go (the good new UKPK is staying).
Caly3 is one of my favorites and always will be.

Well, no clear answer for the distributor that the Cutlery Shoppe uses, we'll have to wait for Sal or Kristi to provide some clarification.

There is some evidence that it may be true: Sierra Trading Post is currently selling the FS version. They are typically a closeout seller (they also have the Volpe and Adventura now), so the fact they are selling the FS version only bolsters that opinion.

Are you sure about it?
