Calypso Jr. clip screws ...?

On the left side of the Calypso Jr. I just received, there are of course three threaded inserts to install the clip for lefty use. One of the three—the one to the back of the knife—is recessed or "sunk" into the FRN handle, while the other two are not. Is this normal? The knife works fine, just curious about this.

Also, what size and thread are the clip screws?

Thanks, GB. My guess was that it was a minor manufacturing defect; blade isn't straight either, but again, no biggie.

What's kind of neat, the threaded insert that's set in further than the others seems to be perfectly usable, but since it's open all the way to the pivot may actually allow lubricating the pivot without some of the mess you usually have. Or it may allow more crud in; time will tell.

Dave, does yours look something like the bottom-most insert in the attached picture? That's my grey one, and my black one looks just the same. I moved the clips to that side with no problems on both of them, as I'm left handed. To me it looks more like a case of the FRN being a little high at that point than of the insert being low, but I guess it could be either. Anyway, if yours is like that, I can assure you that the insert works fine in spite of the "flash". Finally just took the grey one's clip completely off a while back, as it is one of my favorite carry pieces, I never use the clip, and it was wearing holes in my back pockets.

Thanks, Deacon, that's it. On mine, it's set in deeper than yours, and it's on the left side. I'm sure it's totally functional, and in fact the insert should be just that much more resistant to being pulled out.

BTW, it sounds like you've been around an injection molding shop some, and I can certainly imagine it isn't always possible to get inserts these small in exactly the position wanted, especially trying to get everything flush with that fishscale surface.

Didn't mean to sound critical of the piece; just dispassionate, I guess you'd say, and in fact I really do like this knife. The pivot "action" is set perfectly from the factory, and was very smooth; slicker than slick now that I've put a little Militec-1 on it.

Oh, yeah ... I miked one of the clip screws, and they appear to be 2mm, 0.4 pitch.

Many thanks for the replies.

Dave
