A nice little package was waiting for me this morning :). It's a lovely knife, I haven't used it for any proper cutting yet but one thing stood out when I was playing with it - the blade steel (VG-10, new to me) feels strange. It's not cold to the touch like all other steels I've ever felt, it feels more like slippery plastic in fact. Is there some ceramic mixed in, or something? It also feels lighter than it should for some reason, I don't know why I got this impression because I don't have anything of similar size and shape to compare it to, but there you go.

For some reason I find different steel types incredibly interesting, goodness knows why! It took a good edge after a bit of a strop and I'm itching to find something to cut to bits with it.

all I know that it takes a really sharp edge and holds it very well.

VG-10 is a steel originally designed for garden tools (AFAIK). It as a good edge retention and corrosion resistance. Also, they say that its molecular structure makes it ideal for serrated blades (and given the way my SE Delica performs, I think they're right).
No ceramics or stuff like this in its composition. (I don't even think you could mix steel and ceramics together). The slippery feel may be due to a thin film of oil or grease on the blade.
Indeed, the Calypso is very lightweight, but I think that's mainly because of the FRN handles. Don't worry though. If you take a minimal care of it, you'll benefit of many years of service.

Can't comment on it feeling "different" from other steels...

But it should surely feel lighter than other knives. The handle is unlined FRN, and the full flat grind and distal taper of the blade take out a lot of steel. It's a really light knife.
