Here are scans of the Calypso Jr. Lightweight prototypes in black and burgundy. Note the stainless inserts for clip screws on both sides of the knife.

Mr. Mattis - thanks for putting up the pics

Just confirms what I'd been thinking - I'm gonna have to get me one of those

James, thanks for the great photos.

I do like these, especially the burgundy one

. Can't understand why it didn't get a better reception at Blade. Either way I will buy one, congratulations to Spyderco on a great job with this knife.

Take care,

Don't worry that the world might end tomorrow....in Australia it's tomorrow already.

How cute..and the fiance would love the little gold spider on the clip...she thinks it is cute...got one in purple?

I know Sal wants to decrease the SKU's. But that burgundy handle and black spyder logo clip give pizzazz. I think we go do with a little more color in our knives.

Man those are pretty. Which steel will be used in these knives, AUS-8 like the other Jr.s, or please, please, please VG-10 like in its big brother?

Okay, nevermind I found the answer in a previous post (when will the search feature be back?) - hooray for the decision to use VG-10. This leads me to another question though. Will it be possible to get a Calypso Jr. with a Micarta handle and a VG-10 blade? Or, would it be possible to buy one of each and interchange the blades. This would be the perfect gents folder for me, I would buy one (or both if necessary) in a heartbeat. Can anyone comment on these possibilities.

I like both colors!!! I'll take one of each.
AHORA MISMO!!! When is the shipping starting? Also so I'm going to need some Chief or Big Native medicine. Thanks for the Pictures.

As a long-time Calypso Jr. fan, all I can say is, "Wow!" Very nice job. I'll take one in each color, plain blade, please.

Now the two big questions, when? how much?

Burgundy looks good. Can't imagine why to make the black, though, when there is a perfectly good black micarta one already out there. Oh wait, it's being discontinued, right?

VG10 is good, though. Noticed, though, that at least one of these blades says AUS-8. 'Course, it is a prototype.

My baby in burgundy! I'm getting verklempt! Talk amongst yawselves.

Burgundy lightweight is a MUST HAVE! I'm praying they don't do it in just black.

I notice a hole in the clip. Is this to allow for the bulge of the pivot head when the clip is changed over for left-handed carry? Or is there an adjustable pivot screw, in which case the hole would allow access? I'm guessing it's the former rather than the latter. Just curious.

Also, it looks like the fish scales change directions. Why is this?

Is the swedge grind sharp on top, like the original Calypso Jr., or is it flattend like on the Dragonfly? The sharp-angled spine and corner at the hump have been my only serious complaint with the originals. I can fix this with the Dremel, though, so it's no big deal. I could never see any use for the sharp corners, other than aesthetics, which kind of goes against the Spyderco philosophy, don't you think?

These are interesting and attractive knives. I'm looking forward to getting one or more.

Stop when you get to bone.

You're right about that hole in the clip. It's a cutout for the pivot head which protrudes on both sides.

The scales change direction because they are very slippery in one way but not in the other. That makes the handle more secure.

David - Ralf is correct on the clip hole and the directional texturing. The swedge is like the original Calypso Jr. but the sharp edge on the hump will be buffed.
