Just got this knife a few days ago and the blade is closer to one side than the other when closed. Now I have looked very closely and I'm wondering if the two sides of the blade are ground or shaped differently. Or do I just have an off center blade?

Mine's like that too. So is the one that I bought my girlfriend. From my inspection, the blade seems to be ground evenly. Maybe the clip is bending the Zytel..err...Fiber Reinforced Carbon Chain handle. I still love mine.

Gadgetman: Don't get me wrong, I really, really like this knife. Since I posted, I've checked some historical posts and found a few other folks mention some off-centeredness. May be common. Does not effect the operation of the knife.

I purchased two and they were both off center in the handle the same direction. One was especially off center and it looked to be ground off center. It appears that the manufacturing of the blades were all ground slightly off center for a batch...Sal may want to correct me on this. The off-centeredness doesn't affect the use of the knife...they don't rub the handle on either of mine. This knife has one of the best cutting blades I own. I'd love to see a batch with a micarta handle...maroon.

Hmm... that's weird. Mine's off center too.

Which direction does the blade cant on yours? On mine, the tip of the blade leans towards the right side, if you look at the knife closed and tip up.

Since the lock-up is solid and the blade doesn't rub against the handle when closing, it's certainly no big deal, but I still wonder what's up.

You can't expect everything to be perfect on a 50 dollar knife. It's not easy getting the blades perfectly center on every single knife.

I hope I was clear in my original question. I'm thinking the blades are designed this way, with one side ground differently or whatever. The cant with the knife closed, point facing away, is to the right on mine.

VG-10is very difficult to heat treat correctly and my understanding is that there seems to always be a little warp in the blade ater heat treat. They are staightened as much as possible.

IMO, I don't think you will find a better knife for the money anywhere, by any company.

Thanks, Sal.

Again, I really like the knife. And it is the usual high quality I expect from Spyderco. Just curious as to the "apparent" favoring to one side.

So, you are saying that there is a possibility of warp in VG-10 resulting from the heat treating? Interesting. Answers the question. Thanks.

My calCalypso Jr Lightweight was slightly off to the right ( closed, tip up)before I removed the pocket clip. (cought it on seat belt & bent it slightly)

without the clip & screws, the blade was perfectly centered, after slightly bending the clip & screwing back on for right side carry, the blade was jammed all the was to the way to the right. I unscrewed & carefully finger tightened the screws & the blade jammed up against the side again, actions was much stiffer & the blade touches the side. I tried again with just the screws, no clip & still the same. maybe adding screws to the other side might fix, otherwise will need to send it in for repair.

Just to make things a bit complicated, how does this affect the blade edge line when in the locked open position while stroking on a Sharpmaker???
