Having the calpso jr. with the Aus8 and micarta and loving it, this one is definitely going to be ordered. I think the handle may be less attractive but perhaps better in the grip than the smooth micarta. Definitely will like the steel a little better.

Those sound great!! I already have the Calypso and Calypso Jr. and love them. What will be the MSRP?

Must ... have ... calypso jr lightweight.

And must find time to send current calypso jr. to spyderco!

Joe - We don't "find" time, we "make" time. We both know that don't we? Then howcum we're still trying to "find" time?

I believe the only thing that stands between you and what you want is enough self discipline.

With anyone that has the discipline to make a knife sharp enough to "scare hair", it's not really a discipline problem, right? So when you figure out why we can't "find" time, teach me.

Way COOL, Sal! I love my Calypso jr in micarta, AND the discountinued big brother Calpyso

. This new version is ambidexterous (WOOOO HOOOOOOOOOoooooo!!!!), and with better steel.

My only question is - which dealers are getting them FIRST?! LOL!

Ray - I would guess the dealers that ordered them first will get them first. We didn't do too much in the way of "pre promotion" so I don't think there will be a "run on them".

Most ELU prefer "tip up" (this is tip down). I believe the design quality and build quality will permit long term acceptance, but I think the curve will be slow and steady.

Hey, I just wanted to say thanks for giving Boye credit for that lock lever modification. I know many folks would modify various knives this way before he released his knives with the feature as standard, but he put in the effort to popularize it and his name is associated with it for good reason. In the knife business, everyone "borrows" from everyone else, and that is fine, as long as credit is given where it's due (and no patents are stepped on, of course). Good show!

Wooo hoo...this definitely sounds like a knife to get. Tip down may be less popular, but with the upgraded steel and ambidextrous capability, this one sounds like it'll do pretty well.

Well, I thought I had enough Spyies to tide me over for a while, and then you do this to me!!! I like the fact it will be a better steel and definitely a knife you won't be afraid to use a lot. Also the cutout feature on the lock release will be cool.

Wasn`t there talk of making this with a Maroon textured handle? Will this be a reality? I seem to recall a scan of Jim M`s showing a Maroon handled prototype.

Cha-CHING! Ready and waiting with actual, honest-to-"in-God-we-trust" cash in hand.

Excellent, that's great news Sal! Thanks for giving us the update, as most of us "Spyder nuts" having been anticipating a new tool that I'm sure will be a daily favorite. Can't wait to get one!

Honey, I swear that's the last knife I'm going to buy...

Retail is 66.95. My guess is the msrp will be approx 53.56 (80% of retail).

Thanx Joe, hope you know I was kidding. Now Patrick has to "find time" to take the photo. James might have to scan it for the BF.

Steve - We'll wait on the colors for a while to see reaction to the black one.

Sal, I think you may have a winner here. I only have one Spyderco so far(a Dragonfly) but this one has me hooked already! Any chance of a full size Calypso lite weight? It would be nice to have a matched set.

I have a few on order, so I can scan the production version (any color you want as long as it's black

) as soon as the UPS guy brings me one.

Which comes first: plain or toothy?
