My local Spyderco dealer told me the company is running a special on the Calypso Jr., and that sometimes this is the pattern for Spydies soon to be discontinued.

Please tell me this isn't going to happen, Sal.

I had a feeling that it might happen when I heard the Endura and Delica were going to be produced in VG-10. And I was hoping for Calypsos in colors!

IF...Just IF.... the Calypso is discontinued it will most likley be because the vast
majority of the public doesn't understand the elegant simplicity of the design.
I,too, had hoped for colors, but , with inventory cost being what they are I doubt
that Spyderco will offer anything but black. To bad as colors might have made the
knife more attractive to the "average" knife buyer that doesn't care about knife
design just wanting a knife that cuts and does so very well. THAT is just what
a Calypso does so very well.

Tightwad you are correct.
And yes that knife is going to be dis-continued. On a good note @ S.F.O. we are going to carry them as an exclusive. L.W.'s only I belive. ANd these are just rumors I have heard. After 10/15 I should know for sure. You are so correct Tightwad-- that the general joe doesn't even know what it is but they always want it when it's dis/continued.

I got my SS Dragonfly on aug 20th, and on Aug 22nd I was in placing an order at my supplier for a calypso jr lt(plain)... just got ordered about 2 weeks ago...

I have about 2 months after they recieve it to pay for it(lots of time to do so)... just a great design and steel.

flat grind kicks @ss.

Bummer. I got a micarta Calypso Jr. when they were discontinued because I liked it better than the ltwt. Well, now I'll need to get the ltwt because I like it better than, um, nothing.

I have to admit that the design of the calypso jr. has a lot going for it. I appreciate the texturing of the handle and the cutting performance of the blade style, but ergonomically the knife doesn't work for me. It doesn't feel right in my hand. The delica feels much better and is easier for my to open. I look forward to the changes to be made in the delica.

Well dern. I guess I'll have to buy a couple extras. Maybe I'll be able to get them cheap...

Throwing the baby out with the bath water? The Calypso Jr. is one of my favorites. Oh well, that's progress for ya. :(

Calypso jr plain micarta is and always will be my all time favorite Spydie. Too bad I don't even want to take it out of the box. :(

I can't believe that the Calypso Jr. has not been more of a seller. I have a Small Sebenza, which is about the same size as the Calypso Jr., and despite the fact that is the best built knife I have seen, when I reach for a knife to put in my pocket it always ends up being the Calypso Jr. It is slimmer, lighter, easier to open and close, has a more ergonomic handle, a blade shape that cuts better for most of the chores I use a knife for, and I have found VG-10 to be as effective as BG-42. I will just have to order a couple of spares.

Regards,
Rick

The Calypso Jr. is a masterpiece in my opinion. I have 2 of the Aus8 Micarta ones and they are superb! I picked up one of the zytel handled ones to try the VG-10 and this steel is great. If Sal confirms these are on the hit list on Oct. 15th, I will have to buy at least a spare. I don't understand why these aren't one of the top sellers?? Good thing I'm not a marketing guy, I guess....
