Just impulse bought one of these in SE, and was hoping someone could provide me with some pics and opinions :)

Cheers

No pics, just my opinion. You just made one of the smartest impulse buys of all time. You WILL like that knife. If not, send me a PM and I'll buy it off you.:)

Some pics I took recently of my SE. It's a great blade shape!

Enjoy the old school version. The new short run will hopefully be out this year.

Cheers chaps.

Reading through people's comments it looks like it's almost ideal for a knife to use in work :)

Rorschach:
Cheers for the pix, very nice.

I'm exceptionally glad its got a black clip !

Are the scales two different shapes or is that just a trick of the light ?

The Calypso Jr. has a 3D fishscale handle design for a remarkable, non-slip grip. This Spydie is considered to be by some, myself included, an ideal EDC.

Be prepared, because according to Sal, the Calypso Jr. is going to be re-released  with a grey FRN handle, VG10 steel and different clip.

KBR:

Cheers. I was hoping someone would confirm that, as the scales looked somewhat slicker than the Delica / Eudora.

I have to say from everything I've read while trying to quickly research it I think I'll be very happy, and will deffinetly be buying one of the new run.

Thanks again everyone :)

All I can say is CONGRATULATIONS! I am sure you'll be pleased of the little Calypso jr.

i really hope the clip can be changed to accomodate tip up carry. *crosses fingers*

Received my Jr today and as always I'm exceptionally happy, so much so that without even cutting with it I'd decided I'd be buying a PE model when they're re-released.

Weight:
While the Jr is a lightweight knife, it surprised me that it still bares a reassuring heft.

To put it another way the Jr is light enough to be barley noticed clipped inside the waistband of a pair of boxer shorts ( :D ). Though when opened and held in hand, you're met with a reassuring presence, reminding you that you've chosen a solid tool infinitely capable of the job before it.

Size

Fills the hand nicely, fitting into my palm and just large enough to completely fill my hand.
Also, seems a perfect size to sit in the 5th pocket of my jeans still allowing full access to the contents of my pockets without scraping my hands.

Ergonomics

So wrong, but right in every way !!!

Scales- While I’m not immediately a fan of the ‘fish’ inspired pattern, but I must say I was impressed how much purchase they generated without being to aggressive enough to bite into the skin.

Grip- Yet again while initially disappointed with the depth of the forward choil (thinking a slightly deeper curve would have provided more security), after a few hours of knifesturbation I was exceptionally comfortable with my grip on the knife.

It’s immediately obvious that Jr’s grip facilitates two (grip positions), one choking right up on the blade and the other further back both leaving the thumb-ramp to the rear of the blade easily accessible.
With the former evidently better for fine work, the latter seems to provide more than adequate distance to separate the knuckles from the blade.

One unexpected benefit of the precision grip, is how small the knife appears..... Click here for pic

Choking right up on the blade, the entire handle is contained in the palm (not visible) leaving only the cutting edge of blade protruding from the hand.
For someone such as myself working in plain sight of public, the diminutive size of the blade (but still with a nice controllable handle) is a very big plus. Definitely a sheeple friendly knife.

Blade

As said, this is only my initial impression on the knife so I’ve not really used it more than opening packets and slicing paper

Cracking shape, with a nice broad point. I can’t comment on how it performs yet, but seems like a particularly good shape for a box cutter / opener, with the thumb-ramp offering excellent blade control.

One feature that I’m particularly fond of is the bevel (if that’s the word) on the rear of the spine. While it’s not a particularly important feature it adds an aesthetic appeal to the blade, and seems to go along way to prevent scrapes when fishing around in pockets (in which the JR is clipped).

Anyway, that’s about it for now. Seems an excellent knife on the outside, and assuming I get on well with it I’ll be buying a PE as soon as they’re available.

Cheers for an excellent bit of kit Sal.

Hi Mindz
Glad you like the Calypso Jr. Excellent little knife - in fact I like mine so much I just bought another one ( well, it was on offer! )

Aye, cracking little blade, though I cut myself on it within few hours of owning it.
First time on a spyderco, and it had to be on a Spyder-edge model :D So I now have an interesting collection of deep gouges taken out of my thumb :)

Aye agreed, for the money they're an excellent bit of kit, did consider buying another and I'm sure I'll regret not in the future.

***edit***

Just cut my index finger open too :D

Takes a little while to get used to the smaller hole of the Jr, after knifesturbating with the Military for the past week.

Seems a very keen edge though.
