Calypso Jr. sprint run?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, but is there any remote chance we'll ever see another run of Calypso Jr's? It's one of my all time favorite EDC's and it really sucks that right now I have none.:grumpy: And if I want to get one, I have to pay much more than what it's worth considering the materials you're getting.

I don't frequent the Spyderco forum as much as I should considering 90% of my knife collection is made up of Spydies, so can anyone enlighten me on the furure of the Calypso Jr.?

After the Moteng exclusive run (black FRN/ZDP-189), Sal said the Calypso Jr was being retired for good. However, assuming a Spyderco model is permanently dead is about as risky as assuming one will still be available next year. On the one hand, can see them wanting to give the Caly 3 a clear field, on the other, I can't imagine a Calypso Jr. Sprint not flying off the shelves. Unless the molds are worn out, I'd say there's always an outside chance well see another run sometime, although I wouldn't want to speculate on when.

I''d be interested in one of those - with a 2 3/4" blade and a shorter overall length.

Some dealers still have the C52PBKE Plain Edge ZDP-189 Black Handle Calypso Jr. in stock.

Umm, any chance you could drop me a PM with that info? believe me I've searched

I've never liked the Caly3, but the Jr always intrigued me, the bay is the only place i've seen them

What I would like to see is a sprint run of Caly Juniors with either CPM blade steels or some other American super blade steel. Wouldn't having Caly Juniors from both sides of the globe be really cool??>>> I think it would. How about an older Caly Jr with ZDP-189 and a new one with S90V???

Hey why not? To me having a sprint run should be something unique and designed for collectibility.

I love both my Caly Juniors. That Spyder just won't go away. Not to mention that the ZDP-189 version is probably one of the best all around EDC Spyders ever.

That would also be a good one to have a nuclear orange or purple handle.

Hi alexcue,

I can't PM you for some reason. Please provide me with your email address or send me an email at slick228@yahoo.com.

A sprin run with tip up configuration maybe? Thats the only thing thats held me back about the Caly Jr.

I would never take Caly Jr over Caly3. IMHO Caly3 is much better knife.

I just had visions of a Golden made Calypso Jr with orange FRN and S90V. I don't want to think about it too much, my head might explode.

To be more realistic though, I'd love to see Spyderco put out a limited run of Caly Jr's with ZDP and FRN with mutiple color options. Similar to what they're doing now with the Delicas and Enduras. Like The Deacon mentioned, they'd fly off the shelves, so I don't see any reason why the Calypso Jr should be retired for good.

I would add two of them to the two VG10 and the three ZDP189 i own.

The Calypso Jr. features all what i like and need in a pocket knife.

The steel handled AUS-8 was my first "real" folder. I bought it in 2001 and it's still my goto knife when I want to do some serious cutting. Still looks and performs like new. Great ergos and size.

The thing that always interested me about that stainless handled version of the Caly Jr is that it was the only one of the Caly Jr. models that had a hollow ground blade. I truly found that odd at the time I got both of mine. But looking back on it I really liked the Caly Jr with a hollow ground blade.

I really liked the fully serrated, Stainless handled Caly jr because it was a breeze to sharpen with that hollow ground blade. Another Spyder I traded away that I wish I could get back someday :(

But with all the new stuff coming down the pipeline I"m sure my depression will be short lived :D

Hard Core Spyder Collectors better be taking the stainless handled Caly Jr seriously because it will be a very coveted collector piece in the not so distant future.

Gone for good...???

That's a bummer. I much prefer the Jr. over the 3.

But...like was mentioned above, there's so much cool stuff coming up and currently available that I think I'll get over it.
