While I'm not new to Spyderco I haven't always kept up on all the offerings. I've got an old Endura with the molded clip and carried a Delica 3 for 11 yrs.
My question is there's a shop that had an older version of the Calypso. Thought about going and snagging it but when I've searched for info all I can find is info on the Caly 3.
Any opinions on the older version? It's a SE which is why I didn't snag it when I saw it.

Thoughts? Just wondering if I should go get it or just wait and get one of the newer versions. I'm unfamiliar with this model.

Thanks.

The original Calypso is going to be very hard to find. I don't know anywhere that's selling them.

If it is the C54BMS Calypso, yes you should go get it. Now. Even if the store isn't open. But I doubt that is what it is. It is far more likely to be one of the C52 Calypso Jr series, either in FRN or black Micarta. Just guessing, I'd say FRN would be most likely. It is a good, lightweight pocket scalpel. Frankly, I prefer it to the Caly3.

If memory serves it's likely a Caly Jr. It's certainly not FRN.
This shop is great for finding things nobody makes anymore. There are still a couple of molded clip Spydies in there. All new.
I'll drop by this weekend and see what all they have. Maybe I should make some purchases.
I'm a southpaw so some of those don't work for me as an EDC but I have a Merlin I just lucked into for $5 that's going to ride on my weak handed side for yard work.

I have 2 Standards that have gone with me here and there. Of course my Delica 3 (now D4) rides strong side. :)

Are you talking of the larger, original C-54 big Calypso like the one in Yablanwitz's pictures? Or are you talking about the discontinued C-52 Calypso Jr that they made in at least 5 different blade steels that I know of?

Both are great blades>> especially the big original C-54 model; which I believe was one of the first if not the very first Spyderco folder made with VG-10.

But the C-52 Caly Jr with ZDP-189 is one of my "untouchable" blades. In other words I won't trade, sell or barter away. Yep it's that good.

What I wouldn't do to have the bigger C-54 in ZDP-189. But it's a good dream anyway :D

I was planning on grabbing it tomorrow but unfortunately we're having a big snow storm and I doubt they'll even be open tomorrow. Not that I'd want to drive in this. It's rare we're sent home from work early so yeah, the roads are bad.
Next weekend. That thing has been in that knife case for years. It's not likely going anywhere until I get there. :D
