I Took off from work to make Knives this week so this is the third one I have finished up.
The wood is Camatillo Rose wood. It is a tight grain wood said said to darkens with age. I chose Rose woods for Chef knives because of they are oilier in nature and repels moister better.
The wood has a purple hew to the coloring it.

The Spec's for this one is,
Blade steel 1084 forged to shape with distal taper and full tang.
7 & 7/8" blade length.
13" overall length.
2" Blade height.
.155" max blade thickness.
416 ss Dove tailed bolsters
Camatillo Rosewood
Stainless Corby Screws.

I've been gawking at your knives for a while now but I think this is my favorite, that camatillo is gorgeous! Any chance we could get a close-up of the wood?

Thanks for posting, Brother!

Thank You Brothersville,
The dove tailed bolster is done free hand with a vice grip on the contact wheel. Then I fit the wood to match. I have often thought about doing it on disk grinder with a angle attachment.
Hi Amcardon,
I will get some pic's up soon of the wood.

Very nice and very classic Dave. I like Camatillo -- only used it one one knife so
far but I've got a bit laying around for more knives.

Thanks for that! Really great looking wood, never used that one before... I've got about a dozen kitchen knives profiled (and have been profiled for a while now) sitting here that I'm still too intimidated to grind on... Guess I need to get over that and accept that I'm gonna screw some up!

Thanks again, I really appreciate your work and your willingness to post so much of it!

David - That's a fine looking tool there.

A few years ago I picked up about 30 lbs of this same Rosewood, but with some amazing figuring. A fine deal for $2.50/lb. This stuff (as I was told) had been salvaged from areas that were burned to make way for crop planting. The outer edges are charred, but the rest is just fine. I love the wood, but it clogs up files and sandpaper faster than most others.

Hi Bigblue,
I had to clean the belts more often and put some new ones in too.
$2.50 a lb is a great deal. The small blocks I purchased were around $15. each.
Tomorrow I will have a integral pairing knife in Cocobolo to post.
I wish I had more days off!!!!

Love your work as usual! If you ever go with a disc grinder method, RW Wilson sells a disc stand. I have one, it has an indexible table from 90 degrees to 45 degrees and also swings away for free hand grinding.
Love the kitchen knives you've been sharing. More!!

Man your knives are nice. I love your blade profiles. Very elegant
